Yep. That and the price. 12 year Whistlepig is never cheap and I'm sure this'll bump the price up a bit.

If you're curious, the barrels sent to WhistlePig were from Cuvee de Grace. We shipped them immediately after they were emptied in late March, then they got filled immediately with the 12 year whiskey before coming out recently. I haven't had a chance to taste them yet, but they were so excited by how they turned out that we immediately got to work on a bigger project :sunglasses:. They're $174.99 and will be purchased direct through WhistlePig's e-commerce platform and delivered to your door. Here are the states that they can't ship to:

AL, AK, GA, KS, KY, ME, MA, MI, MN, MO, MT, NE, NC, ND, SC, SD, TN, UT, VT, WV, WY

Probably has something to do with lost in translation as the Flemish peoples migrated to Britain during the medevial period.

I, um...well if you have to explain it...:pensive:

Normally Rev spells it Deth...just found the above off brand. Maybe just an untypo.

I got what you were saying and it’s probably either a typo or the use of toxic amounts of coconut.

It took a couple tries, but I finally got a confirmation. Checked my credit card and there's only one charge, so it seems to be working. Only had to buy 2 boxes of truffles to get it to process.

Out of curiosity, how are these beer-finished whiskeys? I have not tried any yet, but not really sure what I would expect. Don't really want to spend $200 on a hunch, and don't like Pig12 enough to pay that much without it being something special.

The Rev fan inside me is excited and wants to try it, I just can't justify it.

Schrodinger's SJ WhiskeyPig - page never finished loading to say completed, got an order confirmation e-mail. Have both a charge and a credit on my card.

    What a mess

Every time I get a peak in the whiskey / bourbon world, I'm really glad I don't drink the stuff.

Makes the beer world look like a utopian ideal*.

*ok, maybe that's laying it on a bit thick.

So I've got a WhistlePig 12 year cask finished Rye from Garagiste that was finished in bourbon barrels that then held black widow mead for a year. By itself, I couldn't necessarily pick up a ton of the mead character, but doing a side by side with a normal 12 yr WP rye, the mead flavors really stood out.

    Thanks.

Was it "better" in your mind, or simply a new expression? A different way to view the world, shall we say.

There's actually way more "rare" whiskey available for purchase at around its time of release, so it's not quite so hard to obtain, depending on your region--and there's this weird af quirk with distilleries scattering their different brands to be consistently dropped only in certain regions for long stretches of time, like years. But, at least when you do buy it, an individual can get very many pours out of it over the course of years, as opposed to one or two for rare beer, and you don't need to have a massive collection to do the trick. But that doesn't stop people from collecting every god damn bottle they can scavenge.

The problem comes when the resellers truck chase, tater, and hoard etc., simply to make a profit--it's just a much bigger racket than the beer game, because of production volume, and the fact that it's easier to hang on to bottles for a long time with no concern for quality degradation, as well that it's effortless to wait for secondary to increase, especially when the starting price often sets the bar at a more attractive level to begin with.

As far as Whistle Pig, they're really just a blender largely sourcing whiskey from MGP, which many other places do, and all their stuff has always been absurdly priced even at retail compared to those other MGP sourced whiskies, which I never really understood. But that definitely helped with the initial intrigue (if it's expensive, it must be world class!). They don't have quite as big a secondary market, so it's easier to get (pricey) pours of their stuff at bars, but they're growing their own rye and trying to bring it all in house. Still, they've never really been my bag.

Curious to hear thoughts of those buying these Rev finished bottles, and doing side by sides with comparable WP and other whiskies.
