Personal Best in Ithaca is posting shots of equipment as it arrived over the last week. Getting closer. They say they're planning on a "diverse, consistently rotating tap menu."

Another one to the Cap Region, and this is phenomenal shit for me in particular, because it's in Watervliet which is a mile from my house.

They look pretty NEIPA-focused and they've got cans already, though I haven't seen any locally so I think they're probably selling out of one specific bevvy in Watervliet which I never go to. Hit them up on IG to see where I can get stuff so I'll see where that goes.

No word on where in Watervliet this is gonna be, but that's a tiny city so I'd imagine it's gonna be on or close to Main St across the river from Troy.

That would help haha. Port Schuyler Brewing.

Ah, so close... Fort (with an "F") Schuyler was a brand of the old Utica Brewing Co. (Google it and there's lots of cool old labels inc. an Ale and a Bock and nice cone top cans). F X Matt, then known as West End Brewing Co. eventually took over the label after UBC closed and made it their economy* brand. FORT SCHUYLER BEER.

    * Yeah, "economy" - as in cheaper even than their Utica Club Beer. :astonished:

Spent more time than I care to admit in Troy during the early eighties, went to RPI.

My fraternity held a huge reunion/fund raiser a few weeks ago, I didn't go.

Riseform Brewing just opened in Marcellus (outside Syracuse) and will have just Saturday hours going forward. Small place, five taps, starting out with a NEIPA, marzen and a blonde and the owner/brewer says there's an English ale in the tank which "probably won’t be a big seller, but I’m still going to do it" so I like the cut of this guy's jib.

If looking to group it with other places, could definitely make a day of it, Skaneateles Brewing, Owasco Lake Brewing and then Prison City.

I really need to take some time around the Capital region and check out some of these breweries when they open. I'm out in Pittsfield, MA and I've only checked out a couple of NY places so far.

If you're doing a day or two in the Cap Region, I'd check out:

    Unified Beer Works
    The Warbler
    Browns
    Singlecut
    Whitman
    Mixed Breed

Great Flats, Rare Form, Fort Orange, Hank Hudson, Pump Station, Druthers, Artisinal Brew Works, Bye-I and Active Ingredient are all more than worth your time too but those are the six I'd prioritize.

I'd also say Wayward Lane is making probably better beer than anybody else right now but that's 30 minutes outside Schenectady and kind of stretching the bounds of 'Capital Region' even though it probably still counts.

Hey @IGaveYouPower: what about Schenectady? I'll be staying just across the bridge in Scotia this weekend... wondering which of the new places are most worth a visit.

I'm a BIG Great Flats guy. I love the vibe and they really excel with the styles a lot of breweries don't make. They do IPAs, stouts and sours well too but traditional styles especially. Wits, irish stouts, marzens, etc. And looking at their list RN they have some bangers -- 2 Fast 2 Juicy is a killer lime/guava sour, they have a REAL nice hefe on, a real good lager and some other super enjoyable brews.

Frog Alley makes some nice stuff too. Group Therapy Session is a highly drinkable session, their Charley Brown brown ale is great this time of year, Squints is a refreshing, tart little beer. Definitely not a must-hit but if the weather is good their patio is tough to beat.

That Druthers has a real nice bar area and in general I think they've really stepped their game up the last year or two. And if you're looking to get food that'll stick to your ribs for days theirs will do it.

I assume going to Scotia you know of Mohawk Taproom but if not that's one of the three best beer bars in all of the Cap Region. Right now you'll find OH, Marlowe, Unified Beer Works, Finback and Schilling on their lines and I'm sure they'll add stuff before the weekend. They normally have 16 taps but I think got depleted a bit from their big party this past weekend. KILLER bar food here too and the owner is a phenomenal dude.

Other places of note: Hunters on Jay for a great taplist and chill environment, 20 North for the Cap Region's best wings by far (very good beer selection here too), Perecca's for tomato pie, Villa Italia for baked goods and Arthur's Market for coffee.

Thanks thanks! I've drooled over the Mohawk Taproom IG. My buddy usually takes me to Peckham's, but methinks those days are over.

Gonna be another brewery opening in Lindenhurst. Might have had a soft opening already. I’m surprised because I hadn’t heard about this one, Breslau Brewing Co.

Hahaha yeah Peckham's has its place but its no MT. Get wings with the trifecta sauce or the firehouse chicken sandwich. Load up on fries too.

He should be picking up your whole tab there as penance for not telling you about it. As my close personal friend Bunk Moreland would say, that's some shameful shit.

yeah they are on N 8th between Bedford and Driggs. Walked by the other day.

based on info from their website they are brewing and canning out of the old mikkeller NYC at citi field. I wonder if they plan to re-open that taproom. It was a nice space but parking was a little weird - they had free parking in citi lot for mikkeller. This would be the closest brewery to my home - would be nice to have a spot less than 10 mins

Was in Brooklyn over the weekend, stopped at Ebbs, it was cool. Nothing remarkable but cool. Talea, on the other hand, was absolutely gorgeous and the beers were phenomenal. Didn't get to hit the new Non-Sequiter spot as planned but that'll be for next time.

Not sure where else to pose the question, but what's going on with Weaver Hollow? I may be right around that area in a couple weeks and always wanted to try their stuff, but the latest info on the website/instagram I see is all from August.
