After moving out of the woods I went to work and to live at a destination resort on top of a mountain, and was on the utility crew, the "do anything no matter how dirty, dangerous, bad hours it was crew", when I started, and we were given carte blanche to climb, explore, hike, and ski the entire area of the hotel and preserve around it, many square miles of beautiful mountain and forest, as pretty much our only job benefit. I got friendly with one of the Smiley family who owned the place, real down to earth guy, and asked him if the rumor I'd heard was true that there were a bunch of crawl caves. He showed me a map from the early 1900's and remembered back to his youth when he and his brothers would go through them with more adventurous and athletic guests. I found every cave on the map, and guided my friends into them and eventually we ended up partying down there with candles in crystal rooms we found as a most excellent pastime. I got the nickname Captain Caveman due to my love of partying in the caves, a name I hated. I changed it to cavedave and hoped it would catch on instead. It did.

    Great idea for a thread.

Barry was my retired Belgian Malinois working dog. She came home from overseas duty at 10 yrs old & made it another 5, (living the good life on the couch). She would enjoy lapping up Hamms from the can as I poured, hence, Barrybeerdog:slight_smile:

Nickname that I was assigned in 8th grade Spanish. Nobody else used theirs after a week or two, but for some reason mine stuck for 30+ years ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Honestly, I would have believed that story, since I already thought that was the meaning.

I'm pretty sure I saw you post about that before, not on here, but it's a definite "complete the deal" maker!

I have always been curious about the reference to Kiribati below your handle. I always assumed you lived out on the small Pacific Island and wondered how you got so many nice beers there. My bad.

Zero creativty on mine....I just adopted the same one that I use for posting comments on product/restaurant review sites. Trust me....it is NOT indicative of any affinity for SoCalif.

Squish up of my real name. My nickname at work is actually BA, oddly enough. When I worked in quality, I quickly got a reputatin for doing things right no matter what. Mr. T was pretty popular at the time, some of the production and R&D types thought differently. Incorrect attitude as one of the supervisors said, so BA and it has stuck for 40 years. My team just calls me B and I sign informal communications that way...but BARose was already apparently taken, if I remember right.
