T: Mango, lemon, orange pineapple, some mild hops bitterness in the finish.
    F: Medium bodied, medium carbonation.
O: This one doesn't finish sickly sweet, a NEIPA I can actually enjoy to the almost bitter end. Good beer!

Finally got a chance to get into a BIF beer compliments of the generous @WunderLlama
Oxbow Dance Language - Farmhouse ale with sweet clover, 8% abv, what a great looking beer, frothy head sustains well, faint aroma a bit stale in a good way, taste not too funky and a tad sweet that is enjoyable, bottle says age up to 3 years, sorry Maynard but lasted 3 days here - Thanks!

I'm staying north of the border again for beer #2, also courtesy of @Coronaeus. Enjoying this one while watching the end of the Iowa / Penn State game, then it's time to watch Baby Driver (youngest daughter is home for the weekend and it's one of her favorites, and one I can gladly re-watch).

This is Roman Candle, another IPA from Bellwoods Brewery out of Toronto.

Poured at roughly 42 degrees into a Teku. Medium yellow in color with some head, but a little less than I would have expected. Good, but not great looking beer. Aroma is somewhat muted. I pick up some melon and a limited amount of fruit. It smells nice, just doesn't jump out in any way. Taste is similarly muted. Grapefruit and a very light bitterness, but more than anything, I would describe this as smooth. The taste doesn't pop any more than the aroma, and it feels a tad thin. All that said, I'm having trouble rating this because while I stand by the above ratings, I'm really enjoying this and it's going down very, very easily. Maybe the best way I could describe this is a great beer for when you're not nerding out on a beer website and rating beer, but rather just sitting around with friends having a pint or two. In other words, this beer is great for its intended use.

Pours a dark cola brown on the edge of black with a dense, creamy tan head that grips the glass all the way down. Beautiful beer. The nose has some cocoa, dark chocolate, a significant roasty coffee aroma.

The cocoa and dark chocolate are forward on the taste, but it’s that roasty coffee that appeals so much to me with this beer - it’s rich, decadent, and packed with flavor at 7% ABV. Outstanding stuff.

    16 ounce can.
    Canned 09/20/21.

Moderate pour yields a one and a quarter inch white head over a hazy golden body with sticky lacing. Nose of tropical fruit and stone fruit with a bit of earthy, floral, herbal thing going on as well. Taste of tropical fruit including a bit of pineapple, some citrus and a bit of pine near the finish. Nice feel and overall, another impressive offering from Hinesburg, VT.
    Cheers!

After laying down for about 20 minutes, I'm ready to join @WunderLlama with this highly anticipated beer: Fremont 12th Anniversary Stout, a blend of BBA imperial stouts with tart cherries.

I received this beer from another phenomenal WA BA, @kemoarps . I'm quite excited, given that I love cherries, I love BBA imperial stouts, and Fremont does one heck of a job with these kinds of beers. I'm avoiding reading the Llama's review until I'm done with my own.

Summary up front (SUF): for me, the cherries are too much - and I love cherries! - because between them, the high ABV, and the bourbon influence, the result is a distinct impression of cough syrup. (My partner said much the same thing, adding that it's a bit harsh and boozy for her, as well.)

The rest of the flavor profile is lush and rich, impeccably blended. Notes of cherry, brown sugar, red grape, chocolate, vanilla, bourbon, toffee, espresso, and molasses, in no particular order. Despite the ABV (and my wife's observation), I found it remarkably smooth and easy to sip, although it never hides being a big beer.

At the end of the day, however, I still find it hard to get past the cough medicine impression - although I tried, and I know it's entirely natural. Everything else - and I mean everything - is wonderfully delicious, and your experience may be different (Der Wunderllama's experience, for example, seems quite different, as he found the cherry influence subtle, and made no mention of any medicinal impression).

Maine Beer Co. Fall, coffee stout, love the look of the bottle, just simple and a bit upscale. The only Maine beer Ive had to date was Lunch and I was blown away, the magnificent @WunderLlama gifted me Dinner as well that I’ll get into tomorrow. Fall pours deep brown, beautiful khaki head leaving sticky goodness behind, faint aroma of malts, taste of nuts, cocoa, cola, but not too much coffee but I get it on the aftertaste. Mouthfeel is a bit thin and although enjoyable, it left me wanting more. Go Blue

My partner and I had much the same impression: if you're not really going to emulate a cocktail - and in this case, I don't feel that Founders did, at least not particularly well - then why not go with a darker malt base? Panther Cub works better than Velvet Rush, IMO, specifically because the stout base really emphasizes the sweeter additives. Highball Drifter works because it really does drink much like a digestif.

Velvet Rush found itself in an awkward middle ground: not sweet and rich enough for a dessert beer, not quite smooth and clean enough for a cocktail-inspired beer. But that awkward middle ground is still really damn tasty - just not quite as tasty as it could have been.

    Happy Saturday BA!

This weekend I'm enjoying an imperial stout from Anchorage called Sent by Liars.

Anchorage describes the beer as, "Thick Imperial Stout fermented and aged in Missouri Oak foudres and finished with roasted hazelnuts, toasted coconut, and Madagascar vanilla beans."

Look: Pours a dark, opaque onyx black with a thin, beige head that dissipates fairly quickly over the course of few minutes. Minimal lacing, though that's not surprising considering the 15% ABV. The high ABV also results in great "legs" when swirling around in the glass. 4.0

Smell: Aroma is predominantly sweet, leading with coconut and vanilla, with a hint of what I assume to be the hazelnuts. The base stout's malts are present in the aroma as well. While a little on the sweet side, this smells really good. 4.5

Taste: I was surprised that I enjoyed this on the palate even more than the aroma would have suggested, primarily I think because the vanilla becomes more pronounced there where it helps to mask the high ABV and balance what is still a very sweet beer. The coconut is certainly also present, and again I think I can tell where the hazelnut comes into play though I would be hard-pressed to identify it without already knowing it was added. 4.75

Feel: With its high ABV and final gravity it's not surprising this is a little on the sticky side. The body is fairly thick and chewy as well which works well with the bold flavor profile. 4.25

Overall: This is really good as long as you're prepared for a lot of sugar as the adjunct list would imply, so it may be best enjoyed shared. While Anchorage's big beers are consistently pricey, they've also proven to be consistently delicious and among some of the best beers I've had the pleasure of enjoying. 4.75

    Final BA Rating: 4.6

I can kind of get behind that, specifically cherry cola (like old school Cherry Coke). I get the impression even stronger on the nose. I'm still enjoying it; I'm not sure my partner will finish her pour, which would leave me with a solid 16-18 ounces. :flushed::astonished:

In general, those Fremont big beers do better with at least a year on them.

Up next another heater Allen, finish off those PNW beers. I’m really annoyed my normal picture location is gone. I keep trying different spots but haven’t liked any yet. Our LED fan light broke and it is some weird looking chip bulb that I don’t even know if I can replace oh well.

    Heater Allen - Schwarz

*its interesting they call it schwarz but then call it a bohemian black lager on the description.

Anyway this beer pours the color of coke or root beer. The head subsides go just a ring around the edge of the glass, really no retention or lacing.

The beer itself is first and foremost tootsie roll chocolate for me. There is some minor hoppy notes and very pleasant subtle roast to this beer that really shines in the aftertastes. It may be cause of the color but I feel there is something that is reminding me of a good root beer as well.

Very nice creamy and soft mouthfeel. It is smooth drinking and clean on the finish. Light bodied with no bitterness but the roast plays tricks making me think it’s low bitter.

This is a very tasty and refreshing black lager. I’d gladly drink this one again.

    Good evening NBW
Tonight's new beer is trending up sharply. Magic Drip from Boulevard
    [IMG]

12oz bottle enjoy by 16AUG2023 poured into a tulip glass at fridge temp 13.5% ABV 23 IBU. The beer pours dense black with no light penetration and medium brown colored head. The head recedes to a thin ring and single layer of bubbles. The aroma is moderate in strength featuring coffee, whiskey, oak barrel, vanilla and sweet malt. The taste is bittersweet chocolate, coffee, barrel blend with a roasty, drying, whiskey infused final bitterness. The mouthfeel is full bodied with just less than medium carbonation and a mostly dry finish. Overall, excellent. Great balance in a big stout with no sign of the ABV in experience.

For five dollars less a four pack, I'll take this over KBS Expresso every time and even money wouldn't change that. None of these are going to see 2022, let alone 2023. Cheers all!

Continuing my new beer weekend with Color Five, a wild ale from Jester King refermented with blueberries.

Jester King provides the below description:
As a fan of both Atrial Rubicite and Fēn Táo, I'm excited to try a blueberry wild ale from Jester King so let's get into it!

Look: Pours a lovely deep blue/purple with a lively lavender-colored head. Good carbonation. The head recedes over the course of a few minutes and leaves no visible lacing. The color from the blueberries really shines through, making this one quite attractive beer. 4.75

Smell: The smell is a little muted compared to what I expected. Being familiar with the standard Jester King funk, that's primarily what I get on the nose. Underneath the funk the blueberries poke their head out and provide a nice sweet balance in the aroma. 4.0

Taste: Initially I think I expected a little more blueberries, though I get them here more than in the nose. Again there's the standard Jester King funk followed by tartness from the blueberries, and finally balanced with a sweet jam-like flavor also from the blueberries. Though I initially found them to be subtle, as I continued to sip on this the blueberries became more obvious, and I began to enjoy the flavor more as I was able to more easily identify those flavors. 4.25

Feel: Good carbonation provides this with a nice, clean and dry finish (as is standard for JK) which balance the tartness well and leave you wanting another sip. 4.25

Overall: I really enjoyed this one. It's a very good wild ale from Jester King, and while I'm not sure that the blueberries translated into the palate quite as well as raspberries did in Atrial Rubicite or peaches did in Fēn Táo, it's still an excellent sour. 4.25

    Final BA Rating: 4.28
