So a buddy of mine here locally won the Prop Day Lottery and has an allocation to pick up at 5p on the 20th. I do NOT have a ticket. What's the play here if I were to decide to tag along on the ride out from Pittsburgh? Will any other BCBS stuff be on sale there or anywhere else yet? I assume not since it won't yet be Black Friday. If no other BCBS is in play, where else should we go in the area? We will likely drive out that morning, do his pick up, hang in/around the city for the night and drive home sometime the next day. Really, any recs at all around this are welcome, including potential stops between Chicago and Pittsburgh.
Revolution is having a Deep Woods release that weekend https://revbrew.com/a-warming-winter-in-the-deep-wood
This wont matter. Prop Day '21 is literally just driving through a line and picking up the allocation. 2021 stuff will not be for sale. You may be able to get vintage stuff at the Goose Island Taproom on Fulton. As @KCUnited mentioned - Rev is having a Deep Woods release that weekend. I would recommend hitting their taproom that evening for the release. They'll have some fun stuff on tap as well.
Definitely pick up some Revolution Deth’s Tar, even if you can’t make it to the Revolution release party. Deth’s Tar will make your whole trip worthwhile.
If I were going back to Chicago I would return to Rev, Half Acre, and Maplewood. Plus Off Color if I had the time.
Nice. I know nothing about how Revolution does releases. Should we be able to go that evening and buy? Will there be a pre-order or what? All of that stuff on the website says TBD, but I didn't know if maybe there is some prior precedent to point toward.
I believe public pre-orders start the Tuesday before the weekend release but someone can correct me on that. Not sure about this particular release but all 3 beers from the last release are still available for purchase at Rev so there's a decent chance you could just stroll in that evening and grab what you want.
I’d be at least a little cautious about this advice. The first release was Deth Tar, Cafe Deth, and Deth by Rapsberries. DT has not sold out night of (ever? But at least not) since 2017. Cafe Deth, also did not sell out night of since 2017, although it was more limited back then. Now both of those may Last till Feb or March. The Deth by series had always been a mixed bag. Deth by Cherries sold out instantly (as I recall) back in 2017, but since then I don’t think any beer from the series has gone that quick, but I’m not sure how often they hang around either. This next release, if I have my details correct, should be Vanilla Deth, Straight Jacket, and BlackBerry Finn. Of those, I think Vanilla may sell out the quickest, but I don’t think blackberry fin has been put out since everyone started getting extra excited about rev back in 2017. And, I know some people have been waiting. Straight Jacket, like Deth’s Tar, will sit around till early next year. If you want Vanilla or Blackberry fin AND you hope to pick up deth by raspberries, I would just order ahead. Lots of people that are not normally there will be coming in this weekend, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Raspberries sells out that weekend. Who knows what will happen with Vanilla and blackberry fin.
Thanks for all of this info. I would actually prefer to order ahead, so I will definitely do that if it's an option. What's the best play here? Keep an eye on Rev's social media? Their website?
Sound advice. Purchasing ahead is obviously the best way to ensure availability. Vanilla is slated for limited distro so I imagine it will last the weekend at the brewery but who knows. Blackberry Finn is an obvious unknown so if you're into fruited barleywines that might be one to circle. Just one of the great things about Rev releases is outside of a select few, and maybe their specialty taps, they've made it really unnecessary to get overanxious about.
Back on topic of Prop day, has there been something put out that I've missed that says where to go? I actually won for the first time ever but don't know where the pickup is.
Yeah I looked at the website on the FAQ and thought it was pretty vague. I didn't win though so I was guessing that my buddy who did probably got something more specific via email. Maybe I'm wrong though? I also thought their disclaimer about how you MUST arrive in a car seemed oddly specific and, for us, inconvenient. We are gonna be driving into town that afternoon and putting his car into the lot/garage at the hotel. Not sure how much of a PITA it's going to be to get his car back out at 5 just for that pick up.
Your "congrats on winning email" should have said something about instructions arriving a week before pickup. Last year you drove to the United Center parking lot where they scanned your ticket and put a sticker on your car. Then you followed signs to the taproom where they took the sticker off your car and told you what garage door to pull up to. Then you popped your trunk, they put the box in, and you drove away.
Hopped into the Maplewood lottery as well via Oznr since we'll be around. What are the odds on that one? I know the Cuppa releases are hyped somewhat at least, just not sure as to the extent.
