My new Monday beer is Shrimp's Creek, a TIPA from Humble Sea. Sent by @JayORear through the current BIF. Poured from fridge temp. Pours a nice murky orange with rapidly-fading white head. Nose is really nice. Grapefruit peel, dank, a nice floral note, and tropical fruit. Mostly pineapple and mango. Smells really refreshing.

Taste: Oh, this is good. Not really that hoppy. Mostly tropical fruit. Sweet. Mango and pineapple, but getting a bit of pomegranate, plums, and apricot. A definite earthy note, with a nice dank layer. Still, the sweet and fresh fruit really dominate here. Very refreshing, and the high ABV is completely hidden. Wow.

Mouthfeel and overall: Mouthfeel is medium bodied - it's crisp but has a moderate thickness to it. Overall, a really nice TIPA that is dangerously drinkable. Thanks, Jay!

Double Dry Hopped Rock Me Dr. 'Saic with Incognito from Magnify Brewing, another magnificent NBS BIF #14 beer from @MacMalt!

16oz can served in a Kane tulip. I can see a spot on the label where I can see roughly the top quarter of the letters "CANNED ON" but nothing else, so I don't know when this was canned. I put the review under a listing that doesn't mention "Incognito" -- I'm not sure if that warrants a new listing or not. Untappd has two different listings.

Pours a hazy pale orange-yellow with a medium sized head that fades to a fairly small collection of clumpy islands. Smell is very tropical juicy -- mango and pineapple.

Taste is also very tropical juicy, but avoiding the trap of being too sweet and juicy. Adds in a little hint of piney/fruit skin bitterness and some citrus pith. Still has the mango and pineapple up front.

Mouthfeel is smooth and full without being sticky or chewy. This is a very nice beer.

    Thank you again, Rob!

    Pühaste - Epiphania Cognac BA

Imperial Stout with vanilla beans, aged in Cognac barrels, from Estonia (13.5%).

Pours a pitch-black coloration with a large, frothy, quickly receding head. Smells of caramel malt, distinct milk chocolate and vanilla, as well as hints of dark/red fruit/berries and oak.

Taste follows the nose, with an excellent balance of caramel malt, distinct milk chocolate and vanilla, as well as some dark fruit and red berries, with subtle notes of fig, plum and cranberry, with hints of licorice, nutmeg and oak as well. Finishes with a light sweetness and some milk chocolate, vanilla and licorice lingering in the aftertaste. Full mouthfeel with a rich body and light/medium carbonation.

While I didn't enjoy this one quite as much as their Tumeaine Cognac BA Imperial Stout, which was absolutely outstanding, it's still an exceptional example of the style that is perhaps just a little too sweet and boozy and not quite as well balanced, but still never feels quite too cloyingly sweet despite a certain lack of roasted malt for my personal taste.

It's those distinct milk chocolate, vanilla and Cognac barrel notes, especially in the nose with a truly intoxicating aroma, that stand out here, making for a truly enjoyable drinking experience that is refined by more subtle dark fruit and spice. Overall, this makes for quite a complex and well-balanced Imperial Stout with a distinct barrel character that makes for quite a refined sipper.

Fox Farm's Layers (Strata), received from @WunderLlama as part of an excessive retaliation for a perfectly innocent and tastefully restrained delivery of malt-based beverages in NBS BIF #14.

16oz can served in a Mayflower pint glass. Dated 08/18/21.

Pours a hazy light golden with a medium sized head. Smell is fairly mild, but I get tropical and melon juice out of it. If I sniff straight from the can, maybe some bubble gum.

Taste is lots of bubble gum and a little melon. Moderate dry/bitter finish leaning toward melon rind but also exhibiting some pith.

Mouthfeel is medium to light, fairly dry, very nice. Overall, very nice beer. I wasn't expecting much as this is approaching three months old, but it's still going strong. I'd drink more. My positive impression of Fox Farm continues to grow.

    Thanks Maynard!

Today is a new beer to me.

    Shiner – Oktoberfest

    5.8% ABV

The beer is listed as a marzen style beer on the label – and listed as “lager – marzen” on BA.

The beer was removed from a 40ish degree temp fridge after having been refrigerated for approximately 4 weeks. Beer poured into classic dimpled HB stein.

First Impression: Going to sound weird, but kind of what I expect. Perhaps a bit thin, good carb, nice color. Nothing standoutish, but nothing standoffish either. 4.0

Appearance: About the same as first impression. Nice color, decent and small amount of head for a short period. Color is a little light for the style, but not offensive. It’s probably right in line for what a non-affluent American might expect. 3.75

Smell: As is usually my take on beers of this style, I get the non-descript ‘bier’ smell. If I search hard I may get some yeasty bread and some paleness from hops with just a kiss of malt. -But…it’s faint. 3.5

Taste: Much like the smell, I am not much help here. I get a lot of malt, tad bit of carmal, bit of overdone bread (the crust). No hop presence. No discernable cracker that I can tell. 3.5

Mouthfeel: Thin, as to be expected. A bit closer to water than anything traditional. But, as is the motto for this ber…not offensive. 3.5

Overall: I want to be clear that this isn’t a good beer. There’s a difference between enjoyable, quaffable, and good. This isn’t offensive, and it’s pleasant, and certainly something I’d order depending on what is available. Does that mean I think it is a good beer? Nope. This isn’t offensive, and it’s pretty much what I expected from Shiner. It’s probably the most quaffable of any of the American versions I tried. 3.75

    BA Review Score: 3.57
