What "boggles" you about having a large glass collection, just curious? People choose to "collect" all sorts of things.....for me, I got into collecting beer glasses and steins some years ago, and I enjoy it - it is fun to drink a brew from the appropriate brewery glass.....ya know.......@properglassware, bro!

Not really understanding all the "tekus are ugly and fragile" comments.....I have never broken one of mine, all my glasses are handwashed only.....I like the elegant, simple and functional design......as they say, "beauty is in the eye of the BA'er"

According to this video posted to Youtube by Spiegelau Glass, it's pronounced (roughly) "speeg-low".

Yeah, having so many. That so many people collect so many glasses, and so many of them being similar, if not identical except for the brewery logo. Hundreds of glasses? But, I'm kind of a minimalist in general. Like I mentioned, I took 25-30 glasses that had just been sitting in storage for 3-4 years, for donation the other day. I still have more than I'm gonna realistically use.

    Shrug. Strokes for folks.

But, they are the ugliest glass, Non-fishbowl division. It's just all the flat, angular, planes. Nothing is rounded, curvy, or smooth. Very jarring to the eye.

Thanks. This was a little tongue in cheek, per the “handle” thread, as not everyone’s name is easy to say, and even if it is it may not be what you thought. @dcotom Know’s what I’m talking about. For years I called him Dot Com, but apparently it is pronounced “D-C-O Tom,” where the DCO stands for something rather than representing letters in a word.

I’ll probably never pronounce this “correctly” for several reasons, including that I like my version.:stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah I easily broke about 12 of them the last 10 years. I have a tired hands one that I use. But my favorite glassware is Maine snifter

The dot.com :sunglasses: pronunciation is SHPEEG-uh-lou (as in LOUD). It's a town in Bavaria, thus the #proper German.

I have one. I use it when I want to feel more fancy. It is from Firestone Walker but works just as well with other breweries' ales.

I have 1 Teku, my BA Teku. First one I've ever had. Probably my favorite glass. No accidents yet but I should probably get a backup or two. After all, beer goes in it, beer goes in me. Repeat as necessary.

The 6 glasses I got from Lost Abbey broke quicker than the sample glasses at the GABFs that I attended.

Tekus are pretentious as hell, but, in my experience, they do make the aroma pop noticeably better than other glassware. I also have a snulip-teku hybrid — or snuku. To be honest, I prefer a Teku over it.

I think that apart from your personal preferences on which glass to choose to drink the beer in your hand, the TeKu is the glass suitable for tasting any type of beer, from Pils to Barley wines.
Obviously, it's a tasting glass in which a beer is poured to savor it as much as possible and have a more facilitated "reading" of it.
Otherwise... we might as well choose a nice mug for the Pils and a nice balloon for the Barley Wine.
Infact TeKU is widely used as an official glass by judges at festivals around here, which is its birthplace.

Small curiosity that may not have reached everyone. As far as I know, we are now on the third restyling of the TeKu.

Probably the one in this photo is the first on the left it seems to me to be a TeKu (first version).
Instead I Think the second and third belong to the TeKu 2.0 (substantially more resistant, especially at the edges and a stretched stem with a more pronounced curvature.).

The restyling 3.0 (I'll put the photo here) has a profile that seems more slender to me: that it widens a little less in the lower part (even if the dimensions do not change) and a less pronounced and less angular stretched stem. Furthermore, in the third official version, a small engraving has been added on the foot of the glass.

At home I have some both the first version and the second restyling and personally I have always preferred the original, although aesthetically the 2.0 has always seemed more beautiful.
Just saying, to each their own.
Greetings from the Land of the TeKu!

I've had several over the years and the beer looks great, but I find them impractical, flimsy and honestly I don't notice a difference in aroma/flavor over a normal, sturdier tulip glass.

I have a couple (Sierra Nevada Alpha Hop Society), but I'm too scared to use them. They're top-heavy, with a thin, long step. Way too easy to tip over.

I wonder just how clumsy some of you are. I've had no issues with tekus being wobbly or tippy. The foot is wide and solid, they're very stable.

Wow, really? A "teku" is pretentious as hell, but a "snuku" is not? Seriously....:rolling_eyes:
