Alright, I'll take one for the team. I feel that it is lacking slightly for BBT. Barrel presence is light compared to prior batches and way more dark fruit than chocolate (raisin forward). Very tasty though.

I agree with you on this. Not as barrel forward as others, if that's your thing.

Just to flush this out a bit more, are you saying it is less bourbon forward, or less oak/tannin forward? I've seen people use "barrel" to mean both of these, but obviously they are different.

I would say less bourbon forward. But who am I to judge? No cicerone here, just a spoiled STL beer snob.

I would agree with you - not as much bourbon or heat, but more fudgy and fruity on my spoiled St. Louis palate.

I'm glad someone weighed in on their impressions. This was my first taste of BBT, and I thought it was great, but was surprised that it wasn't as much of a boozy punch as I was expecting. And maybe just me, but it also seemed to flirt with a feint soy flavor as it warmed. (Nothing truly objectionable, though.)

All that being said, I'd gladly order another pour.

Exactly, everyone will have their preferences batch to batch. I wouldn't argue with anyone who prefers this year's batch. It's still a 5/5 in my book. I think plenty of people might prefer the fruitier notes of this year's.

Man, I really should've just used some of my work remote days and spent the week in St. Louis.

I'll be out there in a couple weekends if anyone wants to split a bottle or two.

As someone who has never had an SP stout before and therefore never had BBT, this is pretty fantastic. Really don’t have much to compare it to though as the only big non-adjuncted stouts I’ve had were Medianoche/Maman but back in 2017 so the memory isn’t there.

Apparently details about 7 and 8 Candles were revealed by word of mouth on Tuesday at the Cellar. Sounds like they’re both going to be amazing, especially 8.

Will be out of town for the Saturday Candles fest sadly, hope some 7 and 8 will be saved for a future Stout Week or brewery anni. Looking forward to the BBT vertical tomorrow though!

in the before times, they usually appeared at the brewery tasting room anniversaries, StL craft beer week maybe, possibly stout week. i doubt this is their only appearance.

Super jealous I can’t make this week. Next weekend will be great too I’m sure, though.

Really hoping so, but there is plenty of Side Project I haven't tried, so I'll probably enjoy regardless.
