Good morning and happy Memorial Day advocates. It’s also a public holiday in some parts of Europe too. Because of the Great War armistice signed on this day near Compiègne in 1918 ending a four years disaster. Veterans at the time thought that would be « the last of the last », alas.

Drinking Guinness Blonde IPA. Why not. I mostly only ever had their base Stouts and foreign extra Stouts. Rarely one of their « yellow beer ». Not too shabby. Hoppy and bitter as an IPA. I likey.

    Cheers!

The wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald is an iconic tune for anyone over, said 35 year old in America and the Midwest, also for me. I used to listen to it often and came across this cover yesterday:

Good morning BAs! Went to bed early last night, and slept in late…coffee time - “Into The Dark Roast” imperial coffee stout from Craig and crew at Infinite Ale Works, Ocala, FL:

No bottling date, purchased at the brewery a couple of months ago. Poured at 57°. Tight khaki top with ok cap retention that sits atop black with ruby edges liquid; persistent small island of micro dots, solid ring and bands of soapy lace begin the voyage; thin legs at best. Chocolate and roast notes nose. Entry is chocolate and bitter roast coffee; followed by roasted nuts; bittersweet dark chocolate finish. Medium light body; light carbonation; no warmth from 9% abv; dryish tongue coating. Overall a fine coffee stout; the feel is thin, and the roasty bitterness increases as beer warms, but there is a pleasing bittersweet dark chocolate linger that I like. A worthy coffee stout from the man who founded Swamp Head Brewery.

We're supposed to get a couple of inches of snow today. Time for something good to make up for that fact, and Another One from Maine Brewing is delicious.

This beer pours a somewhat murky lemon color. The head is a beautiful looking, fluffy looking, white color. Tiny, tiny bubbles in the head. As the head dissipates, after a decent retention, I get some lacing on the glass.
Mango, is the aroma I get from this beer. Quite tropical smelling.
Drinking this beer brings me to the tropics. I get a lot of mango, grapefruir and pineapple in the flavor. I also get a faint pine hint that I also like, and all the flavors work well together.
    Resin, sticky, full bodied.
Solid beer from Maine Brewing, and a pleasure to finally try.

Thanks for the kick off @Shanex ! Excited that Guinness is opening a taproom here in Chicago, can't wait to visit. Beyond sips of Ballantine Ale as a kid, Guinness (stout) was my first true "craft beer", had at least a thousand or so at various Irish bars which poured a proper pint around the city over the years. My maternal great-grandmother was born (at home) and raised a block from St. James Gate, before her family packed up and moved to Liverpool.

Speaking of foreign beers, I pulled another Cellar Beer this morning, this one from Bell's Brewing.

Cellar review linked here. Bottom line, its good, but was better fresh based on my review notes.

It's going to suck ass tomorrow weather wise, so I may go pick up a few more beers for the weekend Brown Ale Weekend tasting (two Altbiers) and enjoy a few more beers before all is said and done.

This goes out to the Veterans who are thankfully still here to a cold beer or two today!

Through the years I have been lucky enough to see Gordon Lightfoot in very small venues. He is a fine balladeer and funny storyteller.

Easy and still a productive morning…continuing with the fridge condo’s clean-out - Westbrook’s “Mexican Cake”:

Canned 5/28/21. Purchased at the brewery in June 2021. Poured at 54°. Delicious, well balanced chocolate, dark chocolate, hot chilies and cinnamon. The standard by which I measure other breweries’ Mexican cake offerings.

A toast to all Veterans today. I believe almost every generation of my family has served from the Revolution to today. Cheers to our men and women in arms!

Well, it wasn’t exactly how I pictured things, but me and Miss Raul are going to get hitched! I didn’t get to propose, but after talking things over the last few weeks, and after seeing an immigration attorney, we decided it was the best move. (Oh yeah, because we like each other too.) We love Beer Advocate and our Beer Advocate family!

I said goodbye to my future veteran son this morning as he heads back to his military port after a two week leave. His ship had just returned from deployment. They got to sit in the Persian Gulf while their Marines assisted with the evacuations in Kabul. It was good to have him back!

Also miss my dad on this day that really meant so much to him.

To all Veterans, I honor and thank you! Cheers!
