Bodhi is a GABF winner in IPA. I think Lucille has been stunning since the beginning, ditto for Lovely Reida and Lily. Add in the clever Arrested Development, Hot Dog the Movie, and Point Break references, and some nostalgia for the super cheap growler pricing back in the day, and I can see why they have strident fans. I don’t think they have quite the breadth of others, but they’ve been reliably above average to great for years at what they do.

Especially for this thread, this seems Ike a very odd post. Looking over some of the entries in this thread, I see a lot of selections that make no sense to me. But after thinking about it for oh, I don't know, maybe two seconds, I'm able to come up with a plausible explanation. "Oh snap! That's right, I'm not them and they're not me."

I mean isn't that what this thread is all about? Participants listing what their favorite breweries are, for whatever reason? I could just as easily ask you about a couple of your selections, but what would be the point and who really cares why you selected the breweries you selected. It's enough that you like them and, for whatever reason, you think they're great.

Hi there. Looking at your beer reviews, it looks like you're a big fan of Michigan beers that don't do anything for me.

That doesn't mean your tastes are right and mine are wrong, or vice versa. But it does mean we probably aren't going to agree on what kind of beers are good. So I don't feel any particular obligation to explain my tastes to you. Nor would I expect you to understand my tastes if I did.

You, of course, are free to look at my reviews and decide if anything I say about beer is meaningful to you. I can look at tour reviews and post history to decide the same.

Suffice to say I think Georgetown makes excellent representations of the styles I like most. Bodhizafa, by itself, is a beer I am happy to frequently spend my money on. Lucille and Johnny Utah and 9 Pound Porter are also beers I think any top-tier brewery would be happy to call their own.

You drink what you like. I'll do the same. And I won't be quick to ask what's wrong with me if we don't like the same thing.

I certainly wasn't attacking anyone's tastes! I was wondering what *I* was missing. Particularly because I followed this thread last year as well, and pretty much co-signed (or at least understood) all the top choices except GT, so I don't think I'm all that idiosyncratic except apparently in that one regard.

But they do seem to be a bit polarizing for whatever reason: their ratings on this site (and the hellsite) are pretty mediocre, certainly compared to other breweries appearing so frequently in this thread.

Georgetown makes easy to obtain high quality beer, not the kind of thing that has massive trade value and a need to inflate their ratings. I don't give BA's ratings a whole lot of weight, to be honest. The PNW is famous for feeling similarly.

They are? Unlike @distantmantra, I actually do pay attention to BA ratings, but I'm careful how I interpret them. Beers that just have a couple of different scores I tend not to pay a lot of attention to. They're typically either unrealistically low or unrealistically high.

That's often a problem in the NW, as there aren't a lot of "tickers" out here. Also, a lot of breweries don't see distribution outside of the NW. So when I take a look at a brewery's BA scores, I tend to just look at beers with a fair size number of reviews if I'm trying to get an idea as to how good the brewery is. In the case of Georgetown, not all that many beers have been reviewed by 50 members or more, but those that do all have pretty respectable scores. In fact, there are very few beers that don't have an average score of 4 or higher. Granted, there aren't many beers with scores of 4.5 or higher, but I find that that's often the case for a brewery that doesn't specialize in BA stouts, wild ales/sours and high octane DIPA's.

When I compare Georgetown to other similar breweries in the NW (that also don't specialize in BA stouts, sours and high octane IPA's/DIPA's), I think their BA scores are pretty respectable.

All that aside, one of the great things about the NW is that there are so many great breweries out here, making a myriad of different styles. No one says you have to like all of them, and who cares if you're something of an outlier when it comes to a particular brewery (I'm not greatly enamored with Great Notion, even though arguably they're one of the most highly regarded breweries in the NW). So you're not a big fan of Georgetown beers? Drink something else then. However, I wouldn't assume that their beer isn't any good just because you don't happen to be a big fan, or that there's something wrong with those who included it among their favorite breweries just because you wouldn't include it in your top 50. Each to their own, no?

Shrug. Personally, I've never thought Georgetown polarizing in the least. We here in NW forum have traditionally understated in our opinions on here. We might love a beer, and call it solid. We tend to not use hype-oriented language. There is so much great beer, everywhere in this area, that it can be hard to impress us.

We, collectively, probably don't drink much Manny's, but a lot of us have Bodhi, Lucille, Johnny, 9LB, or Meowsa in the fridge often. As I said above, they've got some great brewery-only taps and bottles. Go check 'em out sometime!

I have only been in the PNW for two and a half years. I'm partial to WCIPAs and hoppy pales.

Georgetown doesn't do much for me either honestly. They make solid stuff and are a great bargain if you are on a budget, but they certainly aren't a go to for me.

Bodhi uses oats which turns me off in an IPA. I've had oat IPAs before, like Burgeon's Treevana and don't really care for them. Johnny Utah is a fine hoppy pale ale, just not enough for me to go out of my way for.

Logsdon (if they weren't temporarily closed) left Hood River for Washougal.

So Washington for them I'd guess.

Just for clarification, this thing is for for favorite, However one defines that. NOT, what we each think is BEST. If someone thinks favorite = best, cool.

But, and I might be wrong, but didn't they go back across the river? Either way, I'll happily count them as a WA brewery!

See, that's the thing; you don't have to go out of the way. It's in both the Rite-Aid and 7-11 down the street. Bodhi, Johnny, and Lucille are fridge beers for me, for quality, price, and easy availability.

OK! I'll shut down nominations Sunday afternoon, so it's time to holla for your favorites if you haven't already. I'll get the actual voting thread up Sunday night/Monday morning (depending on how NBS goes for me this week).

Availability and price are nice. When I first got to the PNW and lived in Longview I remember getting Lucille as the $1 off pint in Vancouver, and then again at another place in Portland where it was the $1 off special. Maybe that influenced my perception. Not going to get into the can label art.

I like Lush and Crikey and now almost any Stoup IPA better if on tap at the same price.

I will revisit with an open mind. Picked up my first Warchild tonight.

edit: now I see rolled oats in the Warchild description. Sigh.
