Rev Deep Woods 2021 hot take incoming:

SJ > Supermassive > Cafe = Deth > Vanilla Deth

Your mileage may not vary. Thanks for listening!

Blackberry Finn on deck for tonight...

...and Blackberry Finn is really great. I'm typically not the biggest fruited BA beer guy, but this is fantastic. Picture if you will the lovechild of SJ and a blackberry brandy. Its definitely got jammy qualities and the nose reminds me of some things I've had from Schramm's. This could pair well with a Thanksgiving feast - before, during, or after.

Also, going back to my previous post, SJ is just so good. We are so spoiled that it is plentiful and still $25 for a 4 pack. A lesser brewery would engage is some nefarious pricing if they had this in their pocket. 500ml bottle, some wax, double or triple the price per ounce. I had 2021 Wendigo recently, and IMO it's just a huge waste of money compared to SJ.

AGREED. I am a barleywine bitch. Absolutely a Straight Jacket ****.
No need to spend over $50 for a 12.7oz Wendigo bottle that's for damn sure...:sunglasses:

Dangit.....I intentionally skipped SJ this go around because I still have a couple cans of the last couple years hanging around....you're making me regret that decision!!

One of the things I enjoy most about this series are the different flavors they're able to coax out and play with each year while still keeping within a recognizable framework. I "held back" on straight jacket and only ordered 2 packs - now that I've had a couple cans I'll certainly be going back for more. Maybe as early as today.

Straight Jacket is a solid Barleywine, but it isn’t complex enough for me. Revolution has only themselves to blame for that and they can point the finger directly at Mineshaft Gap for ruining Straight Jacket for me.

That's hilarious - just had the same conversation with some folks about VSOJ and Mineshaft Gap making SJ an afterthought. BUT, at a much lower price and easily attainable for weeks/months. I too held back for only 10 cans of SJ this time around. But then I had one. And another.
Yeah, I'll be using Rev Rewards to pick up another 4pk.
But, oh shit...what about Ryeway too!?!
This sure makes my decision to skip all BCBS this year that much easier!

Anyone else most excited about the V.S.O.R. / Gravedigger Billy release?

I have a feeling that V.S.O.R. will be a top 5 all-time Deep Woods beer, and I absolute adore Gravedigger.

    Stouts be damned!!

Deth by Raspberries was not for me. So it goes.

I had it in the taproom and drank it all, but didn't love it, which is okay. I will reserve my final judgement until I have it out of a can. BUT - the differing opinions and palates make this entire thing fun and interesting. If we all liked the same thing this would be a boring hobby/addiction.

What I really came here to say is: I am VERY THANKFUL for all of you rat bastards!
Thankful for the information, meeting up in taprooms, meeting up in lines (pre-COVID), the opinions, and just the fun banter.
    HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL!

The way most people here talk about VSOJ is the way I talk about Mineshaft Gap. If you offered me a lifetime supply of either, I'd pick Mineshaft.

When they last released VSOR I had it on tap and really liked it but didn't feel the need to buy cans.

Last year's version of Ryeway I thought was the best I've ever had though, and it makes me really excited to see what they come up with for VSOR this year.

Basing this on the continued progression of all the other Deep Wood? I see where you're going but last time around I seem to have preferred Ryeway to VSOR. However, that DB VSOR was on another level.

Sitting in the basement. Looking for Christmas lights. Herd of elephants above me as they and my wife prepare for Thanksgiving. The pacing and running upstairs as it sounds like they're going to go through the floor is infuriating. Luckily, there's a fat stack of Deep Woods waiting in the fridge to provide sweet release. Happy Thanksgiving to all the Rev fanbois. And to all the fathers out there, good luck around the holidays.

Having Vanilla Deth at the moment. Definitely hints of vanilla as opposed to vanilla forward bomb. I like it, but not as much as the base Deth’s Tar. This seasons personal rankings so far:

Deth’s Tar > Cafe Deth > Vanilla Deth > Deth by Raspberries

    Happy Thanksgiving.
