What's your most bizarre Beer Trading experience?

lol we’re you shipping through Utah and it was opened by a Mormon who has a vendetta against beer, or something? yikes

in all seriousness, that sucks — hate to be in that situation. I’ve had nothing but smooth sailing with UPS for years (even though we all know different hubs have different preferred carriers, for good reason).

 

I'll just have to warn my trade partners not to use them. Not sure if it was a facility here in Ohio or at the place of origin.

 

I know we have discussed shipping services ad nauseum, but even shipping beer aside, UPS has given me the worst service of any carrier, ever, anywhere I have lived or anywhere that our employees work. I plead and beg for our company to switch to FedEx, but it falls on deaf ears, despite the fact that I can ship with FedEx cheaper than our company's corporate account can ship through UPS. -And, quicker.

UPS can fuck right off.

The most recent thing to happen was 2 weeks ago - they just dropped a package on the ground outside our business while we were closed. I won't go into the details, but (1) that's obviously not UPS policy, and (2) I now have to spend my time dealing with insurance because the package was worth >$3k. This is likely a COVID-related fuckup, but it's representative of all the BS I deal with regarding UPS.

 

I was very close on a big trade. I was very clear that I did not want a particular beer with nuts as part of the trade. (I am allergic to nuts). I would have literally taken any other beer in its place. The other trader was hellbent on giving me a beer that I would/could not enjoy. I ceased negotiations.

 

What a weirdo.

Got a box from a trader several years ago and for some reason he sent his kids report card in it. Kid got good grades though.

 

I was very close to showing up on the wrong end of this thread, recently. Was in a bit of a hurry, arrived at UPS, and was putting a few finishing touches of tape on the two packages as I boxed them up. Went to drop off the boxes and lock my car... my keys were missing (I'm sure you can see where this is going). One box had been in the trunk and one in the passenger seat, so I searched every inch of the car and underneath it in the UPS lot for like 20 minutes, likely looking like a maniac to any bystanders. Sure enough -- in a moment of desperation after nearly giving up I unboxed one of the packages and voilà! There were my keys alongside the beer. I very nearly shipped my Subaru keys to Colorado by accident, which would have been a fun story to tell my wife when I would have had to ask her to pick me up across the city at UPS.

 

Not quite as bad, but I accidentally sealed a pair of scissors in a box. I guess everybody can always use an extra pair of scissors.
