Should we (if so how) add Beer/Cider Hybrids?

    For example...

The FarmHouse Brewery - Owego, NY
    Tretar Cider - Graff
    6.1% ABV
    10 IBU
Tretar- Meanning a second refill or "Threefill". You might find you want 2 or more of this Graf- cider/beer hybrid flavored with apple pie spice.

This particular example really could pass as Beer. Though knowing it is a hybrid, it certainly has Cider qualities.

In my opinion, adding these opens the door to more people and experiences, though it certainly also opens the door to diluting the primary focus of BA. I seem to recall the idea of accepting pure Cider and Sake was entertained in the past.

I vote NO. Maybe worth reconsidering in the future.

I too would vote no. Like you said, I think it dilutes the primary focus of BA.
I’d personally add them to Fruit and Field Beers

That's really playing with the lock on Pandora's box, but I'd understand if they fit under Fruit and Field Beers. If BA was ever going to delve into beverages other than beer, they'd need to make sister sites, like CiderAdvocate or MeadAdvocate.

Well, given the power of filters, other beverages, places, and forums could function on the same platform. The difficulty comes with hybrids, especially given the use of barrel aging and types of fermentation.

Development of clear guidelines for categorization still leaves confusion due to the combination of ingenuity (from brewers and producers) and knowledge level of consumers in general.

Another vote to just lump them under fruit and field beer style.

Frankly, this notion of BeerAdvocate is IMHO, short sighted and frankly seems like elitism. When I go to a new brewery, I get a taster of all the things. I don't limit myself to just beer, I want to experience the talents of the brewmaster, their vision, the ingredients, the craft.

Telling new folks that this is not an inclusive place, and go somewhere else for cider/perry/seltzers/mead/etc puts a bad taste in new members mouths, note the undercurrent of elitism, and go elsewhere (or nowhere for that matter).

Frankly, the styles should match the list of the appropriate association (https://www.brewersassociation.org/educational-publications/beer-styles/ and the like).

@IrishMASMS: I'm okay with whatever people want to think about BeerAdvocate simply because we've opted to focus on beer. We don't have to be everything for everyone. We're BeerAdvocate.

Well shandys are currently added under fruit and field beers.
I think a cider /beer hybrid would be very similar, with only the blended liquid being different.
Just a thought to add to discussion.

The beverage in the OP is a graff or graf - a beer/cider "hybrid" made by mixing apple juice with beer wort and fermenting with "ale yeast." I don't know why this wouldn't qualify for inclusion on this beer site. Someone should explain why it wouldn't. We seem to be OK with adding all sorts of stuff to beer and still including such on BA. Yesterday I drank a GABF winning beer made with "wine yeast." Doesn't the braggot style on BA set a precedent for a gaff beverage being beery enough for BA?

I'm fine with beer hybrids, like Braggot.
