Man, I wish they still took orders online. Would make my life so much easier.

Kinda bizarre they stopped that with Covid still raging...especially with their stance on prohibiting anyone that isn't vaccinated from dining in.

Nod. Wish I had super secret powers and knew who was local but didn't want to buy more. I'd try to talk them into letting me throw a ton of beer at them. Alas, it seems like Benthic is a wierd/difficult thing to try to trade for. I think that's a good thing, though, as it probably means that people are actually drinking it!!!

His birthday is nearing, but let's leave him out of our beer conversations. :innocent:

Last year they released what they had on a Friday (12/18/20) by posting on Wednesday, 12/16/20, you could go and get: - 1 x 4pk of Benthic, 1 x 2pk of Vanilla Benthic, and 1 x 2pk of XTRA DUBL Benthic.
For their business, it is much smarter what they are doing this year. I'm sure they will get more folks stopping in for lunch, and grabbing other beers to go as well. Regular Big Hugs 4pks are available and there are still regular Benthic 4pks available.

For clarification purposes, I was asking specifically about the 2 packs of variants not crowlers of variants.

Same experience here! But this is not solely Rum barrels, but a blend with Bourbon barrels too.
They did a GREAT job with this.

"2021 RUM COCONUT BENTHIC - Rum and Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout with Coconut - 13.7% abv - Hand-toasted coconut - Blend of Appleton and Cruzan barrels, Basil Hayden and Heaven Hill barrels"

Always found it curious how Double Barrel doesn’t have a set meaning. When I first entered BA, I remember thinking Double Barrel always meant it goes into one barrel, then into another barrel. But, clearly some breweries use it to mean the blend of base aged in 2 types of barrels.

Naw, they couldn't name it "Double Barrel" since it was not aged in one type of barrel then moved to another type of barrel and aged there as well. This is a blend of barrels.

I am pretty sure Double Barrel does have a set meaning as you describe above: starts in one type of barrel, then moved to another type of barrel. Have you seen a beer with "double barrel" in the name that goes against that?
Of course, they end up getting blended together before being bottled/canned, right? :sunglasses:

Oh, absolutely. One of the most famous of which I am aware, is DB Huna. From their website (I double checked to make sure that I wasn't misremembering):

Aged in Rum Barrels & Apple Brandy Barrels and Blended Together. 2016 Release.

You're right - that is not how I interpret "Double Barrel", but if it helps them sell more beer, they'll do it. I think it is now common practice to call a beer "double barrel" only if the beer was moved from one type of barrel into another type of barrel. (at least I hope?!?)
But look at this confusing description of Triple Barrel Big Bad Baptist where they count the barrels that housed the coconut and coffee:
"Triple Barrel Big Bad Baptist. We aged coconut and Blue Copper’s Colombian coffee beans in fresh whiskey barrels, while our imperial stout aged in both rum and whiskey barrels. The trio was then hand blended, creating our most over-the-top version of Big Bad Baptist yet"

    Can't agree with you more.

Sometimes I wish the beer industry required that you follow defined terms (perhaps through label approval? I'm just dreaming, not like it will happen.) I hate marketing mumbo jumbo. Just tell me what the beer is. I want to know what style it is, and I want to know plainly what you did to it based on words that should have a clearly defined meaning.

I'm not sure if you ever watch food (competition) shows. On these shows, contestants ultimately describe their dish to the judges. Often they aren't tasked with making a particular item, but instead are given ingredients or guidelines. Well, often people will make a dish but call it something else. The judges will always say, "This is very good, but it is absolutely NOT a ____".

That's how I feel about mis-identified beers. Just call it what it is.
