    Hello Late Night NBS
This one was decent but... probably not one to jump through many hoops to seek out.
    Royally Stuffed

    Thanks hophound.
Deep brown in color. Mocha colored head starts of decent but quickly fades. Minimal lacing.
Nose has a sweet range that moves between chocolate and sugary cream. At times a smooth roastiness comes through as well.
Taste is definitely on the sweeter side. Milk chocolate and a heavy handed drop of confectioners sugar in whipping cream comes to mind. I guess that's in the direction they are going for considering the description on the can referencing "Oreo" cookies. But I didn't get that. Seems to have the components, but didn't come together with the result.
Mouthfeel is a tad thin for a pastry stout.
Overall, not a flop but nothing to write home about.

    Wooly Pig Rauchbier
    [IMG]

I’m not very experienced with this style. In fact, I often do not like them. Having said that, this beer was really tasty.

The bottle is one they exclusively use as they don’t distribute very far: a heavy bottle holding 16.9 ounces. The beer poured a Kathrine Hepburn auburn (look her up kids) with a nice foamy head. Minor lacing throughout.

The smoke is prevalent in nose and taste as expected. Some rauchbiers may go over the top in smoke, but on this one the smoke is very present but acts as a fine complement to the lagered smooth sweetness.

This beer is 5% ABV and is very easy to drink. I imagine some folks may find this too sweet, but I’ll definitely buy this one again when in Fresno, Ohio.

2 things; 1) I hope she heals quickly and completely.
    2) Anybody that will drink a beer while on the kitchen floor keeping the injured dog company is okay with me.

    Cheers!

Whats up @2beerdogs and @Blogjackets - glad I'm not the only one still around here.

Samson 1795 Original Czech Lager Dark

Pours a dark chestnut brown color. Its actually clear when held to the light, but its not "see through" due to the dark hue of the beer. Thick pillowy tan head forms on the beer, lingers, then dissipates leaving a thin layer of foam on top of the beer. Aroma has notes of cocoa, pumpernickel, toasted bread with a slight sweet cream character to the beer.

Taste follows the nose with notes of dark bread, pumpernickel, cocoa, a touch of sweetness, giving way to some spicy, herbal hops. There is a bit of a root beer-esque character to the flavor with the interplay between the spicy herbal hops and the sweetness. Its quite enjoyable. Feel is medium bodied, smooth, mild carbonation.

Overall a very nice Czech dark lager. Not quite as impressive as their Czech pilsner, but this is also one I will certainly pick up again.

Surprise second review before I game some more have a good night NBS.

Modelo Chelada Pina Picante. I had to relearn their can coding lol. 7/10/2021. Poor head retention with bits of lace and fruit clinging on the glass. Wow this was actually pretty great. Aromas and flavors of big pineapple juice, with some chili pepper fruit, crackery malts and herbal/grassy hops. Bit of wheat maybe. Light-moderate chili pepper spice with light herbal/grassy bitterness on the finish. High carbonation, light-medium body, and crisp finishing. Lightly creamy malts with some sticky spice on the finish. Lingering chili pepper heat after the finish warms up the throat through the glass, but doesn't become overwhelming. It's really flavorful and refreshing for 3.5%. A lot of authentic and vibrant fruit flavors, with more pepper spice than the mango variant they made. Definitely heads toward the michelada spice levels I like to see. Surprisingly impressive. 4.12

I’m wishing I didn’t have to get up so early as I’d have another rauchbier. Already plotting a trip back to Wooly Pig. Also rethinking rauchbiers in general. That is the point of new beer week sharing, isn’t it?

#2, we’re at a Belgian restaurant in Rancho Mirage, so it’s Belgian beer time. This is Averbode (not my photo - I’m an idiot).

Enjoyed on draft, the beer is a slightly hazy straw color with a foamy white head that provides substantial lacing. The nose is a little funky and a LOT fruity, with orange and a bit of coriander.

The taste is nicely balanced, with the bit of funk complementing the orange and coriander. The mouthfeel is fairly bright and substantial, fitting the style.

There’s a lot going on with this beer, as seen in many Belgian beers, with the key being the balance between the flavors. This beer does that really well.

Last new beer for me this weekend ...

St. Bernardus - Abt. 12 Barrel Aged Sour

For those that may not be familiar with this beer, St.Bernardus Abt 12 Barrel Aged Sour is brewed using the 1946 Abt 12 recipe. After brewing, they put it to rest in oak barrels for 3 years, during which it sours. This batch was then blended with freshly brewed Abt 12 in June of 2019. This bottle is approximately 2.5 years old at this point (I purchased it this summer).

Pours a clear ruby-tinged brown color. Lively, thick khaki head forms on the beer even with a gentle even handed pour. The head starts to dissipate pretty quickly, receding until just a splotchy layer of foam remains on the beer. Sticky lacing coats the glass.

The aroma on this is really interesting. You get the aromas from the Quad - dried prunes, plum, raisins, brown sugar, dark fruits, overly ripe cherries, and dark malt. Then, the overly ripe cherry notes start to takeover and the sour/tart notes come through more prominently. The more it warms up and those sour notes become more noticeable, the more it resembles an Oud Bruin to me.

The taste has notes of rich, dark bready malts, prunes, raisins, dates, with a mild sweetness bringing a mild brown sugar character. The sourness is very mild and comes with a tart, dried, ripe cherry character. Its a bit odd initially, but really grew on me as I sipped it. As much as the aroma reminded me of an Oud Bruin, the flavor profile does not remind me of it. Its just a very mildly soured quad - which, is yea, exactly what its supposed to be. There are tannic notes that shine through along with oak, red wine, and tart cherry.

Feel is medium to full bodied. Smooth, rich, and hefty, it demands that you slowly sip it, allowing you the time to take in the complex character of this beer. The carbonation is lively, prickly and bright, but not distracting. It is moderately dry on the finish largely coming from that tannic character.

I was unsure what to think of this beer until I hit about 1/3 of the way through the bottle. At first it was odd, but the more time I spent with it, the more I liked it. The moderate souring blends so well with the fresh Quad adding both complimentary flavors and a depth of complexity hitherto unreached by the Abt 12. Its a true treat to drink this one and well worth picking up if given the chance.

Had this one late last night.
    Nice looking beer, ok smell
Taste: raspberry flavor dominates. very little chocolate, maybe just a hint of bock in the background.
Smooth and rather easy drinking. sweet but not overly sweet.
Nice mouth feel, smooth kinda soft. ABV is very hidden. didn't seem to have much ABV

A OK beer but not for me, Glad I only bought a 4 pack. Not the flavor profile I'm craving. Would be a ok dessert beer.
