Good morning BAs! I didn’t want to get out of bed before sunrise this cold 28° morning, so I lingered…thanks to @Ozzylizard for getting us going today. Dipping into my WV stash, and poured at 55° straight from my basement/wine and beer cellar - Cigar City’s “Marshall Zhukov’s RIS”:



Bottled 10/18/18. Poured at 55°. Sublime! Burnt molasses, bitter roast, bittersweet dark chocolate. A non adjuncty BBA treat that’s true to style. Some mouth warmth from 11.8%. Smooth and just what I wanted on a chilly morning. Cheers from South Charleston WV, and have a great day y’all!

Whoah, the three first beers of the day are in the double digits as far as ABV is concerned. You guys are not joking around.

 

I made a big French Toast with bacon and fresh fruit breakfast for my kid brother…he’s gone off to do some Xmas shopping, so I’m playing Xmas CDs and drinking Three Floyds Christmas Porter “Alpha Klaus”:



Bottled 10/01/21. Poured at 51°. IP trade with Bob from Ohio yesterday. Mixed bubbles, dark tan head; very good cap retention; heavy ring, heavy minus lacing; dark brown body, very little clarity under cap; no legs. Sweet malt and fruity fresh hops nose. Mild bitter hops/roast malt malt; semi sweet malt base; chocolate; fruity hop finish. Medium minus body; no warmth from 6% abv; moderate minus carbonation. A tasty hoppy porter; interesting hoppy and sweet (Mexican sugar) linger; not your average Porter - different, and I like!

G'day Advocates! Thanks there @Ozzylizard for cracking open todays thread. I've a titch more outdoor work to do today within our 'big melt' and of course it involves ladders so I'll get funky and chill out 1st with Toppling Goliath Forced Flair DIPA. Really tasty and it's hittin' the spot. Always great to be here learning stuff.

This is a dry hopped spelt saison ale, released to celebrate Chicago's Very Own Lucy Gonzalez Parsons. Holding up well, but still trying to enjoy my remaining Spring (10) and Summer (11) "drink fresh" beers before going out West.

Two for Tuesday today = two of my favorites from the Saturday 1986 set.

 

Next pull from the cellar and it’s a doozy - Deschutes Brewery’s “Black Butte XXIX” 29th
Birthday Reserve Imperial Porter, brewed with Dutched cocoa, Saigon cinnamon, and cayenne, 50% aged in Bourbon and Rum barrels:



Bottled 6/12/17. Poured at 57°. Two fingers of mostly creamy khaki head with some rocks that sits atop a brown with ruby see-through body with medium clarity; very good cap retention; heavy minus lacing; heavy legs. Rum molasses bourbon nose; boozy exhale; oak as beer warms. Taste is bourbon and sweet rum up front with chocolate and spicy hot peppers right behind; very little cinnamon, but present; oak, vanilla middle; finish is semi hot boozy chocolate. Viscous velvety feel; heavy minus body; warmth from 12.2 %; moderate minus carbonation; peppers burn on tip of tongue. Overall, smooth and full for an Imperial Porter and exceeded my expectations; for me, rum BA beers often overpower the whole, however, here with the bourbon BA, and I dare guess 4 1/2 years cellaring, the rum has its place and contributes to the booziness, but the cinnamon has faded, the peppers have held their own, and the bourbon and chocolate anchor the whole…for me, a Wow cellared beer…
