What beer are you drinking now? #3349

Bonjour @Shanex and thanks for kicking things off on this glorious Winter Solstice (9:59 AM CST here in Chicago).. Same predicament for me today, trying to go back to sleep as I have to be up before noon.

Excited that daylight will grow each day starting tomorrow, and that Chicago has set a record since weather has been recorded here for not having a measurable snowfall this late into the season. Hoping it holds on for five more weeks before I hit Las Vegas for an extended trip.

Good day BAs! Thanks @Shanex for starting today's thread and @ChicagoJ for reminding me that Tom Petty existed - for some reason he'd totally slipped my musical memory (probably too recent). Off to a cloudy start to the day - depressing after yesterday's sunny skies and mild (38 degree) temps. I spent most of yesterday sitting in the car while Mrs. Lizard shopped, at least lunch was good as was the frozen Mexican pizza we picked up for supper.
Today's New Breakfast Beer:



Thanks to @Roy_Hobbs and NBS BIF #14 for this witbier. Seems rather flavorless despite the added coriander, lemon verbena, and oak barrels. It does look great however and have a good mouthfeel. Rating 3.55, rDev -17.4%

 

Fun song from The Knack - thanks for posting @ChicagoJ ! I remember hearing this song for the first time as my roommate and I drove his VW beatle to the beach (Nags Head) to camp that summer, and we looked forward to it coming on the car radio. It’s funny how I relate certain songs to events in my life…great memories…

Cold this morning, but I’m warming up with another memory of sorts - Westbrook’s Mexican Cake:



Bottled 6/7/17. Poured at 50°. Cinnamon tan head. Black body with ruby edges. Ok cap retention leaving solid ring and spotty lace. Cinnamon and spicy peppers nose, Taste is hot verdé sauce, bittersweet dark chocolate and cinnamon; more chocolate and less cinnamon as beer warms. Overall, the taste is as good as it gets for Cake! The cinnamon is mild and the peppers heat plays into the hand layed out by the chocolate base; amazing hot tingle on tip of tongue from the habanero peppers; no oxidation after 4 1/2 years in my WV cellar. For me, a holiday treat.

Today I hope to take it easy. It would appear that I tore my right long biceps tendon on Wednesday (overuse) compensating for the shoulder, so I can’t do much now vis a vis my dominant right hand/arm. The good news is I feel pretty good and there are plenty of holiday activities to distract me…have a great day y’all and Cheers from Richmond VA!
