What’s up with these guys? A new BA stout release, 300 bottles, limit one. Been available for 2.5hrs and counting. They jump the shark or what’s the latest views on them?? I set my alarm and my wife and I both scrambled to get ours - and it’s still available. These used to sell out in minutes …
I was wondering the same thing. Maybe it's actually 3000 bottles? Or everyone spent a grand on Bourbon County like me and is actually smart enough to take it easy for a month?
I've scrambled to grab every single one of their BA releases. But my fridge is packed to the gills with BA Stouts (BCBS, and Darkness included). Just felt like I could sit this one out. That being said... I'm sure it's fantastic.
I've never heard of Barrel Theory. Then again, my ignorance could fill a library. Are they world class? And, do they ship, or do you have to come to St. Paul to pick up the beers? And as a side note, dare I say @eawolff99 that maybe that ************ @Todd was right to bring us together? I acknowledge that we were both up in arms initially... I'm already WAY more interested / invested in Minnesota beer than I ever would have been. Not that you all need me...
I’m dying laughing!!! I have never been happier that that asshole @Todd merged forums - I got Benthic release, Binny’s full BCBS allocation and two 3 Floyd’s packages because of that prick Seriously though, I’ve never been more active on the site! Yes they were and are world class but something weird is going on that one of their limited releases is this easy to get (no proxies, no shipping, have to go to St Paul to get it)
Not too experienced in Barrel Theory's BA beers. Only have had 2, maybe 3...? Just grabbed Dream Eater. That was released about a month ago I think. So many BA beers out there. Maybe that's why? I don't know, but their beers are solid. Edit: Also, wasn't there a 'Barrel Society' type membership thing before? What happened to that?
There is a Barrel Theory membership which started at 100 members shortly after they opened. I’m pretty sure they have never added new members since the initial launch of the society. They had annual renewals the first few years, but they kind of moth balled it over the last year and a half—during Covid but I’m not sure if that’s the reason. However, they gave early access to the few limited BA releases during that time for members despite no requirement to re-up. They just sent out a renewal invite within the last few days at normal membership dues and perks. It looks like they’re brewing at full steam with their flagships, one-offs, and limited releases again.
If they offer any new memberships, I might jump on board. I've become a bigger BT fan that last year or so. Not that I ever had a problem with them before.
We went there Thanksgiving weekend when there were six or so stouts on tap, a couple of which were BA. Most were mediocre, one was bad, and one (Sweater Weather) is probably the worst beer I've had in my life. It was something ridiculous like a pumpkin cheesecake stout, but all I got from it was a weird alcohol-y taste. It's a bummer because I think Threat Level Midnight is one of the better stouts around town, but they never seem to make it - they just make IPAs and mediocre to bad adjunct stouts. *edit: Mediocre to bad is unfair. There were two bad stouts that day, but that doesn't take away from their anniversary stouts or some others they have around. That release they did today sounds good. I'm just bitter because Sweater Weather was so terrible and I want a Threat Level Midnight.
Did you try out the new release? Worth getting? I'm assuming some bottles will show up for sale on their site eventually.
