Screwed up above by the way. I meant 40% ABV, not 80. That’s 80 proof.

Also, see the last line quoted above regarding math and beer.

Thanks to this post I am now on the hunt for Hungarian-brewed beer.

Be aware that most of the stuff for this price is pisslager, ofc this is a hidden gem.

For more widely available craft feeling with good value, I'd recommend beers from Mad Scientist or Szent András Brewery.

Of course there are a lot of smaller hungarian craft breweries you can explore but idk about their availability abroad.

I'd be shocked if we can find any Hungarian brewers in the states. Do you see a decent amount of Hungarian beer distributed throughout the EU?

    Mainly in the neighbouring countries.

Honestly craft brewing has just started developing here in the last 10 years.

These 2 brands I mentioned are available in supermarkets and you can probably order them somewhere. It sure is a challenge to get beer from here in the US.

Since arguably our best style is the New England IPA, you're better off having that style continuously improved in the EU, rather than having that imported.

It's taken well over 10 years in my opinion for craft breweries here to improve their lager game. Relying on pasteurized imports that have probably been sitting in a warehouse at high temperatures isn't a suitable replacement for the real thing in Europe.

Lagers are great here, fortunately. Before the recent craft boom there was pretty much just premium lagers everywhere.

Wow, that just read like what I would’ve posted if I responded. I’ve always kept it exactly the same, about same standard drink limit.

oh and I use that standard drink calculator quite often. I think for anyone who wants to cut back it can be a good motivator to track your standard drinks a week, sometimes a visual can help motivate maybe?

I will say we’re all different too, so what works for one isn’t the same for another. I also try and listen to my body, if it says not to have my normal beer at night I don’t.

I use this one cause it allows decimals and either oz or ml:

I use an app on the iPhone called, "BoozeFit".

You can put in specific volumes and ABVs, and it even gives you your "BAC". This is because you add the drink, and then put in when you finish it. So it factors in the time you took to drink it as well (and you can even put in whether you've eaten or not).

It's obviously not an accurate BAC, but you start to get to know what BAC number is too high for you, and when you should stop.

The total number it gives you for calories can be divided by 98 to tell you how many standard drinks you've had. For some reason it thinks 98 is the number of calories in a standard beer (12 oz. 5% ABV beer).

For liquor, it thinks it's 100 calories, so I just use 98 for everything. Close enough. For wine your standard 5 oz. 12.5% wine is 102 calories. Whatever, if you're having enough where that 0.02 and 0.04 difference makes a difference, you've already had too much and probably can't do math at that point anyways.

I used to drink A LOT - say about a case every day or two. Now I drink one container in the morning (New Breakfast Beer) which I post on WBAYDN. Since I cut back to one - two a day, my weight has dropped back to my post-AIT level (although little of that is muscle these days). I measure brews by containers, so my NBB can be anything from an 8.45 oz can to a 750 mL bottle at any ABV. The evening drink (if it occurs) is usually a refeer beer, commercial or home brewed.

It ran in the family. His son, August A. Busch, was interviewed in late 1932 about the then-current debate of changing the Volstead Act to allow either 2.75% or 4% beer. (The latter figure won out BUT it was written into the law as "3.2% by weight.". Kinda a compromise.)

Pub. Dec. 4, 1933 "If we start up to make a beer with a 2.75 per cent content of alcohol, it will be just a farce. In a nutshell, here is the whole proposition: A beer with less than 4 per cent of alcohol is simply an insipid slop without life or snap to it. People won't drink it. I ought to know. We have been brewers here for seventy-five years... (The pre-Prohibition Budweiser) was 4.5 to 4.7 per cent. We built a world-wide reputation on that beer. Now, do you think we want to start to cheapen that brand by making a weak 2.75 per cent slop? No. We want to make a beer that will be worthy of the Budweiser brand. It is not intoxicating. A man could not get drunk on 4 per cent beer unless he were a hog and wallowing in it."
By Dec. 7, 1932 however, he changed his mind somewhat (underlined) when he was quoted as saying:
"I hope it will be 4 per cent beer. This 2.75 beer is belly wash - a substitute for wholesome beer. I wouldn't make 2.75 beer if I didn't have to considered the fact that this company has stockholders."

I use the RCWV method. (Recycling Container Weight or Volume).

If the can is uncomfortably heavy to carry the 60' to the curb or it is more than approx. 3/4's full, I think to myself "Damn, I drank a lot these past 2 weeks." If it's too full, I make sure to crush the plastic milk and pop bottles next cycle, which solves that problem. Too heavy? Drink more canned beer for the next two weeks.

Looks like Artisanal Imports has brought some kegs from this brewer within the past few years.

I was going to order them when both were on tap at my local craft beer bar.

"Yeah, lemme have a glass of Zseg... Zsegfu...boro... Umm... No, how 'bout a Fuck... Me..Bore...? (Fuck me is right!) Ah, just gimme a Bud."

For reference, I'm 29, married, 3 young kids, 7a-4p physically intensive job.

I count calories and base my beer allowance off that; during week days I allow myself 500cal a day of alcohol. For reference a 12oz imperial stout at 10% has about 300cal. So on average I probably have 2 beers a night, a couple lagers, or a lager before dinner and a stout or glass of wine after, typically ending up 300-500 cals, or by alcohol servings 2-3. I try to stay at that 16 or less "alcohol servings" per week for general health. Never getting drunk, usually not even buzzed. Cant with a 5, 3, and new born in the house.

Maybe seems too complex, but that's what works for me. Sustainable for my lifestyle, circumstance and wallet, and hopefully for my long term health.

Also not to sound preachy but another way I monitor myself is by always asking myself *why am I reaching for another drink* and answering honestly. If its because I want to feel more buzzed, then it's time to shut it down. I drink only for the enjoyment of flavor, not to reach an intended physiological effect. Drinking for the latter is a dangerous gamble in the long term. Too much history of alcoholism in my family for that.
