We all have reasons for not buying a certain company's beer offerings. Over the years, I have seen many different ones from my fellow BA's on this site. Some reasons I agree with and will follow up with my (lack of) purchasing power, some don't bother me enough to avoid giving them my money. I have listed the many reasons I could come up with:

    -Meh beer
    -No, confusing or vague dating
    -Sexist/racist or similar discrimination
    -Too pricey
    -Inconsistent/ too many infectious beers
-Aggressions against unionizing or other labor-related issues
    -You won't buy anything AAL
    -Consistently not fresh
-Most offerings are in 16 oz. format
-Former craft but they "sold out" to a macro
    -Bad brewpub/brewery service
    -Unappealing labels
    -Owner/founder is a prick
    -They don't name their beers
-Focus on one style or have been trending towards one style lately
    -My ex works for them

Yes, I have a brewery in mind for all these reasons. Are some of them silly? Sure. There's a brewery here in Cincy who doesn't name their beers, "We brewed this fantastic lager and we called it 'Lager'". I just think it's lazy. Shouldn't I judge them on what they put in the can and not any name? Of course I should, but there's a lot of breweries out there now so I can be picky!

Though I've been contemplating this for a little while, the recent thread by Jack (@JackHorzempa) got me thinking about all the reasons we all have- I was surprised that someone started a thread promoting BrewDog seeing how there have been numerous thread pages bashing those guys. No offense towards you, Jack, I'm sure that beer is fantastic!

So when you look at that shelf or in that cooler, who do you rule out and why?

    Cool thread.

Evil Genius. Their beer names are lame (they try to be funny) and their beer is less than mediocre. Surprised they’re still in business to be quite honest.

Will think of more, but that was the first I could think of lol.

That last one is funny. If i had an ex that worked at one I'd bring all my dates there.

Too pricey, aggressions against unionizing and meh beer are reasons i currently am not supporting breweries.

Another reason is because of extreme vax protocol. Recently was turned away from outdoor consumption because no proof of vax. No thanks. Not only is that against legal guidelines but also the only place i know doing that as far as restaurants and breweries are concerned.

I won't purchase anything from Denizens because of an incident with one of the owners at an event. She got wasted and just started berating one of my employees in a case of mistaken identity. When I stepped in and told her that I lived two blocks away from the brewery and would no longer patronize them, she said "Well fuck you, too".

I've told this story to several people who work/have worked there, and they all say something along the lines of "That sounds like her"

My reasons. I will say that "meh beer" can be overcome in a brewpub setting by having good food, atmosphere, and service. But I wouldn't get anything to go or purchase at a store.

I only need one and that could be any one from the OP's list.

    None taken.
Well, I have not personally tasted that La Trappe brewed beer but the reviews of other indicate that is indeed a fantastic beer.

    Cheers!

It only takes one, but sadly there are some breweries who check multiple boxes.

I think the beer would be great by default as both breweries brew above-average quality beer, IMO.

While I don't rule out any of the other potential reasons listed, this one has been a thorn for me since my discovery of craft beer. Because I am among the genetically blessed for whom the word "pale" in any style descriptor means "You Shall Not Pass (the wall of perfume/drain cleaner effect)" - and there's been more than a handful of IPA-only breweries and taplists out there.

Thankfully, that has receded a bit in more recent times, and I now anxiously await the advent of the pastry-stout-only breweries.

The OP's list is pretty comprehensive. I won't name names, but repeated bad experience and inconsistent brewing will definitely lead me to spend elsewhere. Also, its just not the owner, but if the staff are pricks, I probably won't be back either.

I have no problem commending a brewery for above-average beer even though I don't buy their stuff anymore due to more than one "list violation"!

Here’s another reason to add. The brewery changed a recipe and now the beer is not as good as it was.

It is the arrogance of many modern beer-centric individuals that most offends me.

Besides avoiding places with lacklustre beer - obviously - I stopped going to a couple local places for a while because of bad service. One spot in particular had a guy who worked the cash in the bottle shop that made you feel like you were ruining his day when asking for the beers in the cooler behind his counter. Eye rolls, huffing, etc. Rubbed me the wrong way so I stopped going for a while.

I will not buy anything associated in any way with Anheuser-Busch unless I see BCBS in a markdown cart at the liquor store for $5.00 or less (which I have, so don't laugh). When they chose to cast their lot with the douchebags at the Des Moines Register and broke off their working relationship with Carson King over some years-old racist tweets that a reporter dug up, that was the last straw for me. Screw them, Elysian, Karbach, Goose Island, Golden Road, Stella Artois, Bosteels, and everyone else associated with them.

There is a brewery in New Jersey which publicly stated that patrons who voted a certain way in the 2020 election are not welcome. Regardless how I voted (and I'm an independent), I find their position obnoxious and have since honored their request not to visit.

Anyone not naming names in this thread: your cowardice is not appreciated.

EDIT: meant in jest, I'm just here for the drama.
