General loss of hype and a lot of people think the BA version has gotten worse starting in 2019. Plus, it seems like more spiced stouts are available now than ever before. A local MO brewery does a spiced stout series every Black Friday. And if you're in St. Louis, Ambiente could be available from the originator of Abraxas.
I went ahead and closed my crate because of all these stories lately. So now I have a box coming with 3 beers in it. It's been delayed a few days, I assume because of Christmas, but appears to be out for delivery right now. The company that delivers for me is United Delivery Service. I've been pretty happy with them. They just drop it on my porch and I'm good with that because I'm almost never home when it arrives.
I'm not sure. It used to be something I really loved and would seek out, but a buddy of mine had a few bottles recently, and it just lost it's luster for me I guess. I also got BAA last year, and thought it was just okay, definitely not worth the long drive to get it. The beer may be the same, but my tastes (and evidently quite a few others) have changed.
My order was supposed to be delivered on the 23rd but didn't arrive in CT until the 27th and hasn't moved since. This will be my first and last order as it isn't worth the aggravation of trying to figure out when this will be delivered. I'd care a bit less if it didn't need to be signed for.
Another Anchorage showed up in my feed today, just a few days before my crate closes. Anchorage's Jaguar God. Opting to pass. They list it as a barleywine, but really it should be a blend. I'd probably pony up for another if it was just a straight barleywine. Instead this is a blend with added vanilla.
Also passed. I'm just finding their stuff to be over the top sweet for me, then there's the price of entry. Blessed b2, albeit enjoyable, was a chore to finish at the end for me.
Scary to hear. I have three new-to-me Anchorage beers on the way soon. I should open up a few to evaluate if they're worth future purchases for me. At this point, at least in my feed, these seem to be the only 'draws' to the app. Would love to see more barleywines, but I may turn into just a lurker.
I've tried three of them so far and have one more on the way. I really liked two of them and absolutely loved one of them. They have all been incredibly sweet, but not in an annoying or cloying way to me. Just make sure your sweet tooth is prepared. Unless a new barleywine comes up, I probably won't buy anymore though. They just don't separate themselves enough from the pack to justify all that extra money imo.
I definitely noticed a level of sweetness that some could perceive as over-the-top from their standard high-ABV stouts, but I found their Barleywine Wendigo to be surprisingly balanced and more enjoyable as a result. I'm hoping these stout/Barleywine blends will retain some of that balance.
I got the open more, skipped jag god, vanilla additions can be hit-or-miss for me. Hope to see another straight up a barleywine sometime. I'd particularly love to try a coffee barleywine from them...
Emphasizing this, just in case the powers that could make this happen, happen to browse Beer Advocate. Would be nice to see just coffee added too, not the coconut or vanilla additions they've done in other "coffee stouts". The lack of reviews on Jaguar God also pushed me away, and I don't generally trust Tavour ratings.
I'll stick with it if they have more barleywines available. With the new appreciation thread, I'm on the hunt!
Same, but getting the error: "Oh no we just ran out of beer." Sad boy. Would've been the near perfect bottle to finish this crate.
It's still up on my feed too, but not allowing me to purchase. Sad, but perhaps for the best. I have plenty of beers in the cellar, and that's exactly where this bottle would've gone.
My guess is they sent that to everyone's feed to sell the last of it, as it showed up for a small market of others, what, three weeks ago?
I emailed them a few weeks and they said that batch sold out and they expected another batch for other regions in early January. I got notified for this one and I don't for the "leftovers". Anyway, I kind of like that the algorithm is an enigma. Adds to the mystery and suspense. Sorry you missed out, that sucks. I gotta say I am stoked for my first taste in 10 years though.
