I don't think I could drink as much as this BA, even at a much younger age (I am 54 now). I enjoy most of my beer on the weekend and very seldom imbibe during the "work week". Too much alcohol interferes with my sleep, and I really need it, sleep that is.

WHO advises to abstinate from any alcohol two days per week. That does not mean you shoyld exagerate the other five days. Moderate is imperative.
And no alcohol 3-4 hrs before bedtime will make sure your sleep will not be affected.
And only in good (beer!) company!

Yes, indeed - "Who" ? "Who" is asking the right question. Certainly not me!

My upper range was 5 a day during week, obviously more on Friday/Saturday. The weekday routine would be
    1. Lite (Miller)
    2. A better Lite (current fave is Lagunitas Daytime, hard to find anything wrong with that beer)
    3. Decent IPA (for years was Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, replaced by Founders Centennial IPA, more bang for the buck)
    4. Another Lite
    5. Another IPA (variety pick)
I've drawn down for a while now, 2-3 beers usually, and enjoying bourbon more to round out the nights.

This routine has taken a big toll on the waistline, not that I have cared. But I'm growing tired of buying new sized pants every year or two, so just started trying to put a stop to the expansion.:whale::whale::whale:

    Age is 58

I'm usually no more than 1 pint a day weekdays and 2-3 pints a day weekends. I also try to not drink at all a couple of days a week. Currently on day 3 in a row with no alcohol as I tested positive for Covid over the weekend and it just doesn't feel right to drink right now.

Bear in mind, this is an extremely small portion of this website. And it doesn't appear those who imbibe quite a bit responded to this thread.

I imagine the amounts people drink on this site are much higher than this thread represents. Based on how many different beers people say they try in various threads, there's no way the numbers would be this low for everyone.

Not judging at all, drink whatever, but this is just an observation from someone who's been on this site for 18 years...

yeah I'd wager people who drink more tend to avoid these threads cause they aren't interested to hear they should drink less. :grinning:

Those complaining about this thread being done before, get over it. It's a good topic to discuss every once in a while.

I generally drink based on my weight situation. If I creep up past what I feel is my ideal weight, then I'll cut back until I get to where I need to be. It keeps me in line!

In Nov/Dec, I was drinking about 7 beers per week. I generally don't drink that much, on average 4-5 weekly. My weight crept up a few pounds, so now I'm cutting down to 3 per week until I get back on track.

It was worth it though, made my first trip to Tree House, had to plow through the case+ I purchased!

Good Luck - just keep your health in mind.

Might as well throw my 2 cents in. I'm good for at least one beer and maybe 2 but rarely more than that. To each their own but I personally can't stand the feeling of being even slightly drunk anymore. Don't get me wrong ... I enjoy taking the edge off just like anyone else but I don't enjoy it beyond that. I also like a good pour of bourbon now and then too. I have gotten to the point in my life where I really do appreciate a good well crafted beer, a delicious whiskey or a full bodied cigar. I have learned that moderate and disciplined use is key. Now if I could just discipline my spending habits on said moderation :sunglasses:

Haven't read all of the posts, so it may have been said, but it is important to know that just because you drank one single "one beer" i.e. one bottle/can of beer, does not mean you've consumed 'one drink'.

"One drink" when it comes to beer, is defined as one 12oz serving of a 5% ABV beer. 'Moderate' consumption is defined as 2 'drinks' / day. So, one 12 oz can of a 10% stout is your two 'drinks' in a day. Especially in craft beer, it's easy to think 'i only had two beers today' while they may have been double ipas or stouts, so really, more like 4 'drinks'.

This has really helped me in how I think about my consumption - how many 'drinks' am I consuming vs. how many cans have I opened.

Which is strange? That folks who drank way too much high ABV beer every day eventually had to slow down or stop completely? Or that they still post here on BA?

I still come here because I still love beer. I get my beer enjoyment vicariously nowadays, here and other places.

One beer most days, 2 on the weekend. Besides the effects on the liver, beer is a ton of excess calories and any more and I'll get above my current moderately healthy weight (which I know I could get down to optimal if I gave up beer).

While true, you can be in very very good shape while consuming a moderate amount of alcohol.

In my early 30s I drank about 15ish beers a week and was about three weeks out from stepping on a bodybuilding stage.

I would have had to completely give up beer though those last three weeks had I had the desire to step on stage. Granted those levels of bodyfat (stage condition) are unhealthy and not maintained outside of competition.
