I haven't polled most people, just most craft beer geeks I personally know.
Barrel doesn't shine that much tbh, but the aggressive hoppy bite has toned down since it was first released, allowing both it and the malt to peek through a little more now.

Agreed. @Sabtos and I have a lot to work out at our New Glarus / podcast meet up in Milwaukee!

    $23 at 3F and at Binny's.

After enjoying and investing in a few 4pks of Straight Jacket, it's a tough sell for me.

Drank two cans of $50 Million Dollar Man last night and it's quite good! Bright, citrusy, balanced DIPA, and hard to tell it's 9%...will definitely get another 4 pack.

It's been some time since I've had BA Behemoth and it might be worth a revisit just to confirm. I do wish 3Floyds would brew 'variants' again like they did a few years ago with Woodford Reserve and Old Forrester. Those were hot and boozy! May not sound like a good thing but I thought it worked in those two.

^^ this. I used to trade for regular behemoth, then trade half my cellar for BA behemoth back in the day. Now I can grab a 4pk for $25 *head exploding emoji*

I had BA Behemoth for the first time when it hit distro here last year and was immediately turned off. It sounded like something I'd love but it was just not good in a general way I can't really pin down. Like the combo of malts and barrel didn't play well or something. My takeaway was it seemed to be a shitily-made knockoff of BA Bigfoot or CW BABW even though I know it's been around for years. Now Pillar of Beasts on the other hand...

This is the only thing keeping me from buying it if I see it. I love a good barleywine, but I don't want no hops in me Bwine.

Barleywines age well and hops don’t.

I know, and if it weren’t for that it would be a hard pass, but I don’t know how long that will be and it is hard for me to take a risk on a 4 pack just to say, “I know I am not going to open this for 2 years”. -When I don’t even know if I will enjoy it at that point.

The low price is encouraging, as is the format.

If you can’t tell, there’s a lot of back and forth going on…

Nice surprise running to my local Binny's to find they finally got some Crushing Mass this week. Not sure if another batch went out, or its overflow from the distributor, or what. But I finally get to add my worthless opinion this evening!

Worthless opinion: anyone who feels that Crushing Mass is a run-of-the-mill BA coffee stout is 100% wrong. This is very close to (but not quite) Supermassive level good. I could smell the coffee the second the popped the cap. Has a slightly more viscous mouthfeel with a hair of molasses on the palate. But this is a gorgeous beer, that better goddamned well be in regular rotation.

I personally won’t go that far as I love them all. But I also won’t argue that opinion. It gets better as I drink it.

Agree with @mbockstruck30 . But at Binny's prices of $46 for Supermassive, $33 for Cafe, and $25 for Crushing Mass, I'll go with Crushing Mass all day.
We started discussing this beer on 11/15/21 in the thread "Chicago Stout Releases 2021" and I'm very happy it is still around 2 months later!!

I've had both Supermassive and Cafe Deth . Currently have a Crushing Mass abd Supermassive in my possession. Maybe ill do a side by side of Supermassive and Crushing Mass, but i feel it's unnecessary to even compare great beers

Unpopular opinion: I didn't think Crushing Mass was run-of-the-mill, but I also thought it was way too over-the-top coffee-forward and that it had been steeped too long. I was taken by how Supermassive could present so much coffee while still having some semblance of balance, but that balance is missing from Crushing Mass for me. I've had two bottles so far, and maybe I'm sensitive to it, but both had more pyrazine compounds (bell pepper flavors) than a coffee stout should have.
