Black Cake barrel aged stout from Common Space and Bottle Logic.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours jet black with a bit of brown head.

Nose is cinnamon, nutmeg, chocolate, Christmas cake, plums, and raisins.

The taste follows the nose. Very Christmas forward. Cinnamon, nutmeg, dates, figs, prunes, vanilla, chocolate, and a touch of roasted malts. Mouthfeel is fairly thick. Aftertaste is all Christmas spice. Lots of nutmeg.

Overall, an interesting stout, but not worth the $25.

Hello (now it's) Late Night NBS.
One more. Probably done with this one.
    Shepherd's Throne by Great Notion

Canned 12/09/21. "I Speak For The Hops" Nice Treebeard reference.

Muted gold in color. Opaque. A good amount of particulate swirling during the pour. Fluffy white head asserts itself 2+ fingers high and slowly recedes to a thin film of tiny bubbles. Pretty solid curtain of lacing.
Aromas begin with orange, pineapple, mango, berries, and hints of weed.
Flavor starts off with a nice mix of mango and weed. Mmmm that's my kind of tropical start, Ya Mon. But seriously, in order of appearance (roughly): orange, mild grapefruit, peach, papaya, pine resin, grass, weed, and light onion and pepper to close.
Mouthfeel is medium, decent carbonation, and didn't reveal any alcohol warmth until I was nearly done.
    Overall, a solid hoppy sipper.

As far as i know i bought the last 6 remaining bottles in the wild.

Hell , when i went to Trustworthy and asked if they had any even the bartender there said if I got one he'd buy it off me. I later went back after buying the last 3 bottles i knewof, i went back and cleared the store i knew had it of the last of it after gettin 3 on first visit, and gifted him one
He's asked the head brewer if he plans to make any more but they don't have the capacity to make any more.
I only have 2 left but have drank maybe 4 in the past 2 years. Its at a perfect time right now ( looks like it was brewed in 2018 and bottled in 2019) .
Maybe some are out there that i don't know of but i always keep an eye our for this one.

The other Kviek beers I've had, that yeast & phenolic taste was pretty prominent

HAHA. When I write this, it's intended for those further east than me, and definitely east of Kiribati.:joy:

Well, compared to where you USED to be chiming in from, I guess I'd agree.

In the past, there were very few participants out here on the Left Coast. So I usually was chiming in for the crickets when I was posting at 9:00 or thereafter.

I've got a lot of thoughts on death today. Now that I've actually sat down to type them out, though, I find the words have abandoned me. Death is a necessary part of life, and it can be a beautiful thing. Dying in your mothers arms, as a glorious sunset blossoms out the window, for example. With family around. Making it accessible for the littler ones and letting them help to brighten her waning moments. Release. Peace.

Against Death is a heavily altered saison from Floodland.

The pour is a cloudy golden yellow with a fizzy white head that builds then recedes to a thin ring. Fairly standard.

here's a lovely light sweet honey saison character, but that is soon subsumed by the herbacious influence of adjuncts. I'm not overly familiar with gentian root specifically, but I know my way aroudn herbs and hippie remedies enough to be able to recognize that that is what is driving things for the most part. Earthy and herbacious, the calendula flowers seem like they were probably still green, as it's more the vinous stem than the spiciness of the petal that comes through. I don't really get anything from the pluots.

Favour starts off with a small nod towards the grapefruit peel, before recommitting fully to the herbs and roots that, along with the oak and the bitter of the grapefruit get kind of medicinal. Following this bitter earthy herbaceousness, the grapefruit comes back around full wallop and is just single mindedly pithy bitter.
The whole thing is so singularly minded that the flavours just serve to ramp each other up, and for me personally, it is too strongly, overwhelmingly in the bitter realm of the pith, the herbs, and the oak. The component flavours are interesting, if you're into a more botanical approach, but they are too strong for me to personally enjoy, though letting it sit out actually helps to curb that some, and lets the warmer rounded saison underneath shine a little better.
Ultimately, this is a rare miss for me from Floodland, but I'm still glad to have tried it, and you can see the thought process that went into it, and ultimately that's one of the things I love about their stuff is that it's always very intentional and you can generally see why he made the decisions he did. Unfortunately, for me personally, this time it just didn't completely work.

Cheers y'all hope you're staying warm in this new year!!
