Well, that is some heady company, of which I am not worthy of inclusion. But, I thank you anyway.

It gets even more complex, and more reliant on the eye test, when you consider BAs who are a huge part of the BA experience, but don't submit reviews. @JackHorzempa and @JayORear come to mind. In sportsball terms, they don't have the "counting stats" of reviews, but the eye test tells me that these are two hugely influential and important BAs for the community at large, and I know that I am hardly alone in that opinion.

@jesskidden is also very obviously a great choice, although curiously he has logged precisely one place review.

You could always use other stats to justify a case for BA HOFers and MVPs: posts, likes, Karma, what-not. But I'd never go on the raw numbers alone to justify a member's impact and influence.

As a few others (@BBThunderbolt ) have mentioned, we used to do a BA of the Year thread - unofficial, but still a touch contentious, as these things are naturally popularity contests. Still, I seem to recall that pretty much every nominee, and certainly every winner, was held in high regard by the BA community writ large.

As usual, you made my point for me, but clearer and more concisely.

Must be from writing all those sandwich recipes.

"Clearer and more concisely" is something of which I have never been accused!:rofl::rofl:

I just love sportsball conversations (ask @kemoarps  ), and found your analogy apt.

    FTFY.

Also, @kemoarps and I also regularly converse on the above mentioned number crunching baseball blog.

You should see the pizza tournament we're having since baseball is in a lockout.......

Yeah me too. That’s my point and I’m obviously not conveying that well. The entire point of this thread was to bring attention to the many people that contribute in excellent ways on this site. The original counter argument was that we should scribe a new title for one user, and has since morphed into the idea we should recognize the few elite users in a couple of different ways which was basically my idea to begin with. If I wasn’t being clear enough, my apologies

A few years ago we had a thread to call out BAs we respected and say why. Maybe we could just do that again. You know - say something nice about someone. I feel like we could use that. No winners or losers. Just tell us about a BA you respect and tell us why.

Remember the days when people truck-chased regular Poobah because it was still special? Regular Poobah just doesn’t generate hype anymore. They don’t even need to put limits on it now. Releasing the unique metallic color coded wax top variants was the best move to keep people interested. I know I’ll never land the extremely rare platinum variant because people ask so much for it. Remind me which Poobah is the maple marshmallow one.

The one with cheesy-poofs and cheap beer middle of the night puke colored wax.

And, yes, before you ask a few friends and myself killed a Matts Beerball back in about 1980, eating nothing but off-brand cheesy poofs. I had to try to explain the orange stain on the lawn to my landlord the next day.

That colored wax is the wax you're looking for.

So, I been cogitating on this for a few hours, and here's a possible answer to your OP.

Start a few threads, with the titles that you listed in your OP: Examples would be; Most Reviews, Most added Beers, Most added Photos, Best NBW Participation, Best Tasting Thread Participation, Most Thread Contribution, Most Completed Trades, etc. Start a poll at the top of each of the subject thread with your 10 nominees. Folks can vote at will (I surely will. We all love an online voting poll), and the group will decide.

Do it. The worst thing that can happen is that site activity will increase, which will undoubtedly please Todd. Maybe Todd will choose to post the raw numbers that you suggest, but, in the meantime, we haz an internet pollz to votez on!

As a side note, my view wasn't necessarily a "counter", as much as I thought it a a view that both recent and long time contributions deserve their times in the sun.

I suggest adding one more metric to the many suggested already above for whatever goals all of us have for the result of this discussion.

The one BA (not moderator or "mgt.") whose loss would be felt most by the most people, and most difficult to replace by another person.

Well, I was trying to ignore this thread but kept getting "tagged" (is that the correct term for "@"?) so I want to remind folks that the big book of rules for these awards clearly states (a) no one can received an award twice, (b) no one who refused the title (which I did) can ever be nominated again and (c) no "member" who is really just a "bot" and not a real human can win*.

(* Remember during the ceremony when my virtual image went to take the statuette from the presenter and it fell on the floor, shattered! How embarrassing.:astonished:)

As I recall telling someone (was UtopiaJane involved?) at the time my philosophy on such things was Shermanite-Marxist.

(The latter being Groucho and the former being the Union General, who is featured in my potential new avatar, which is at the ready.)

So, to quote yet another great American sage (Samuel Goldwyn): Include me out.
 I actually once had about a dozen - most of which were more "warnings" than reviews, noting changes in ownership or beer selections, the store's/bar's beer "philosophy", extremely bad service, etc., that were contrary to other reviews.

I eventually deleted them all, since places closed, improved or changed hands but for some reason I can't delete that one (even though the original business is long gone, sold and renamed, and I even say as much in the review). Now I kinda find funny.

As someone who has come into this thread late, I wish I could say it’s surprising to see that started off as lighthearted and fun degenerate into one-upsmanship, obsequiousness, and stat crunching.

My observation that no one was able to follow you as BA Of The Year, and my suggestion that perhaps no one should, not only were made because of my deep admiration for you. It also was a backhanded way of suggesting this kind of awards thing above what's already in place isn't such a good idea. So I agree with you completely more than might be obvious from other suggestions made in the thread. My minority opinion is we shouldn't do any of this.

jess is totally the ultimate note to go out on! Without question. However, always digged the unofficial BA'er of the year.

And as for your new avatar, I thought for sure that was Bukowski...
