Someone in another thread said this thread was going off the rails, so I checked it out and thought nothing much was happening.

Then I realized how many of the participants I'd put on "Ignore" a long time ago and was reminded of why I did.

 

Can you hear me now? (I'm sorry, I just couldn't resist that one. )

Apparently you can recognize fluff when you read it and do something about it. I'm no good at that. I just let it pass through.

 

Fluff is a nice way to put it.

 

We do, though Terry's a dirty Cards fan, so there's really only so much civility you can muster with someone like that...

 

Hey! I take shower once a month (whether I need it or not), so I'm a clean Cards fan!

 

As much as I value JK's contributions to all of our improved understanding of beer knowlege, awarding him anything will be like matter-antimatter colliding now that the official BA stance is "beer ratings matter" and he has done so few.

 

Somewhat exaggerated, don't you think?

 

well, his profile shows zero beers reviewed. My note was not intended as a slight or insult, rather, just an observation that what we as members seem to value (JK's excellent beer knowledge and his willingness to share it) does not appear to mesh well with the new BA emphasis on rating beers.

 

I understood, but "so few" doesn't do justice to zero.

And I fully respect JK's choice to not review. He's been consistent over all these years and I think it adds to his integrity.

 

I think this is a perfect example of how everyone brings a different critical piece of the BA puzzle to the party, and as a BA community we would be diminished if everyone had the same piece. Think what the place would be like if we were all reviewers and no one had much knowledge of beer history or of the myriad of other kinds of information that we all love to discuss and debate in various forums.

 

Well, maybe not *all* members.

No. I don't think "awards" are needed for anything here. We all contribute what we can, when we can and together it means something.

How many BA's don't contribute to the WBAYDN thread, but add and review beers daily?

Sorry, never was one for popularity contests.

While the idea, imho, is cute I don't think it requires anything more than this conversation.

That's just my 2 cents.

 

One would hope…. But.

I ‘know’ a local guy who has accumulated tens of thousands of ratings/reviews here and elsewhere who has been known to beg a sip from his barstool neighbour’s glass and promptly enter a ‘review/rating.’ A sip. From someone else’s glass.

Awards? Sometimes just a big number is enough to encourage fluff.

 

well, I guess that depends on what you value. Ya, everyone brings different pieces to the BA puzzle, but some pieces are needed more than others and some pieces probably are best left for different puzzles.

 

Do they get a fez?
