While I love American barleywines, my favorites fall under the English style, including Sucaba and BCBW. And Harvest Ale ain't too shabby. Of course, I love the fact that Lower de Boom is cheap and easy to find.

Some might consider this blasphemy, but I strongly prefer U.S. made English style Barleywine over those made in England.

This is enjoyable, with an almost smokey, burned toffee/maple syrup flavor throughout that I liked quite a bit. Faint, cooked apple and raisin emerge toward the middle. The finish adds a harsh, acrid char and lingering cane sugar. The body is still and syrupy. I have another bottle that I guess I'll age indefinitely.

Thanks to everyone for participating in the survey and chiming in with their thoughts. I am surprised by the extent that the U.K dominated the U.S. I learned a lot and had a great time reading everything. #BiL!

That’s an ugly beer - which surprises me. Wondering if you decanted or not - that would definitely affect flavor/aroma etc.

Fair question, I did decant leaving plenty of sludge and an inch of liquid in the bottle. Here is the detritus on the left.

Haven't heard anything about that, is it brewery only?

And El Segundo B.O.B. 2 - it's amazing. Did you not like the more recent versions of Old Jetty?

Interesting - I really love this one. I wonder if there is some bottle variation as mine didn't look like that!

Anyone that is semi-close to Louisville, KY, I HIGHLY suggest you seek out London Balling from Against the Grain. Amazing barrel-aged English Barleywine.

Mine was probably a year old when I bought it. I kept it in a cool dark place since, but maybe it wasn't handled well before purchase.

B.O.B 2 is but Old Jetty is just as good if not better.
I have tried every vintage of Old Jetty but feel the 2019 is in a great place right now. I had a 2021 16oz can not long ago, and at their brewery 2021,2020,2019,2018 on tap on BOBAP day and felt 2019 stood out.
I should rephrase my suggestion and say buy any Old Jetty
The new 16oz cans are only $9.00 which is fuckin insane. I should go write that in the barrel aging thread

They did it last year about this time. I don't know how far the distro was. My store still has a couple 4-packs on the shelf, so the demand isn't very high. I think it's $25 so that's probably a factor.

Last year in PA we only saw the Regular Nemesis. It wasn't barrel aged.

OMG, it's my second error of the year and it's only January. I stand corrected. I was thinking that Nemesis has always been a BBA beer. So now i have to look forward to the BBA version too and figure out how to get in a trip to the brewery..

This used to get distro in my area. I bought it once, and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Funny, the last three years this beer is as rare as the creature around here. I have grabbed the one six I’ve seen, it was 2020.

    Enjoy
