    What's up, West Coasters?

I'll be heading out with the family for the Universal Studios --> Disneyland double dip (five days combined) before heading down to San Diego. That said, we have a good portion of that Sunday in between Universal and Disney. So we're doing the touristy things with the kids around L.A. (pics with the Hollywood sign, Chinese Theater, etc.).

If I had the opportunity to:

    (a) Pop into a brewery that has dope beer and dope food, (b) Pop into a brewery that has great to-go options without even staying for one beer, what are my best options? Like best of the best options. It'd be dope to do option A and bring some beers for the cooler at the hotel. B is also a solid option.

This is not a drinking trip, or at least until San Diego it's not a drinking trip. I just think it'd be fun to check out a local, kid-friendly spot.

    Thanks!

For Los Angeles, definitely Highland Park/Homage iwhich are around the corner from each other in Chinatown. Highland Park has solid food but I would recommend doing takeout/delivery and eating at Homage. Tons of great places in the area -- Howlin Rays (delivery only), Angry Egret, Pearl River Deli, Amboy.

The Anaheim craft beer scene is incredible and there are plenty of places to grab beer to-go (Monkish, Modern Times, Bottle Logic, The Bruery). All depends and your style of choice. If you're doing Disney California Adventure, Lamplight Lounge has a limited but surprisingly great beer selection (they usually have Horus and Bottle Logic on tap).

Downtown Disney has Ballast Point. I was at the happiest place on earth on Tuesday and didnt bother with DDBP. Price for a full pour is $12 for Sculpin. Not the happiest price. But your in Mickey's Park. Maybe I'll check it out next month when I visit Disney Cal AdventureLand or I'll check out this Lamplight Lounge while the boys are playing. Or not. Instead I drove the 5 minutes to Monk Beer Garden for some cheaper drinks. You also have Green Cheek Orange nearby. And Radiant Beer Company. Have fun.

ProTip: In Disney California, they have beers on tap, to-go, at the restaurant at the pier. Bottle Logic and Horus, etc. This is where it's a bit funky....you have to walk up to the reservation desk, tell them you want a seat at the bar. They'll tell you it's a 10 mins wait, and hand you a buzzer. The buzzer will go off in a minute or so, they'll walk you to the bar downstairs, where you then can order any of the beers and ask them to put it in a to-go cup. Whole thing should take 5 mins. The beers are better, and the same price as the rest of the park.

Bruddah, you aren't kidding, just selling the city's taprooms a little bit short ... Anaheim also boasts an excellent meadery, Honey Pot, and a couple of exceptional craft beer liquor stores.

What the OP needs to do is consult untappd.com when cruising into the area to get an idea of what's available on-tap and to-go. Everything is close - this will help you sort things out, beer-wise.

It's like a virtual Disney Beer World for craft beer nuts.

another pro tip … inside Disneyland in the Star Wars area, there’s a bar / tavern that serves beer & mixed drinks … there’s like 4 beers on tap and decent considering you are inside Disneyland

Sure beats the old days when the only two ways to get tanked at the Mouse House were to beg a friend for Club 33 passes and pay for overpriced drinks/dinner or exit the Monorail at the D-land Hotel, drink your lunch and reenter the park.

    If I recall it’s $18 for a pint.

I believe it's $15 and 2 pint limit ... which for DLand, worth it - easier to deal with the obnoxious crowds after a couple of pints  ... I think the mixed drinks are $18

They serve alcohol at Disneyland now? Even though I grew up close enough to hear the fireworks every night, Disney wasn’t my thing - I was more of a Knotts guy :sunglasses:. Oh yeah, check out Windsor Home Brew in Anaheim (across the street from Bottle Logic). They have an amazing shop full of goodies and great tap list.

Granted I haven't been inside the parks since the Before Times.... But our go-tos in DCA were: Mickey Head pretzel and Aurora Hoppyalis off the Karl Strauss truck, Bear Republic Racer 5 in Radiator Springs, and whatever Bruery or Bottle Logic they had in Carthy Circle restaurant. DCA also has beer specials from local breweries at the carts during their food festivals.

For cans to go, head over to the Packing District and hit Modern Times Leisuretown and Monkish Anaheim. They're both within a short walk of each other and a mile or two from the Mouse. You can even bring the fam and drop them at the Packing District for a meal while you hit the breweries.

Beer there wasn't memorable, maybe contract brewed stuff from Florida. I was shocked at the number of flights I saw going out in Rancor teeth... https://www.shopdisney.com/rancor-tooth-flight-set-star-wars-galaxys-edge-464027092910.html

Worth it for the a visit but go for the mixed drinks over the beer.

I relayed this info to my buddy who is there today. He said beer to go at the downstairs bar was cancelled due to COVID. He was told he can "wait for the cart to open and see what they have today." I'm not exactly sure what that means.

Not sure if he had any luck yet as I haven't heard back from him. I see he hasn't checked anything in on untappd so far though.

    Following up...

Here's what I got back from my buddy: "The bar essentially was moved upstairs and you had to wait on line for to go beer/cocktails. They had Horus, Bottle Logic, and a few others."

So it looks like you're still in luck for better beer options despite the changes.
