Me and my friend have the gueuze, golden ale and sour ale. We're looking to get a BB Kriek so we can do all four side by side. what is it trading for these days?
Thanks for all the info. Might be a little to rich for what I'd have to give up since I know I absolutely love stuff like KH and Vanilla and the BB Kriek seems like it might be a gamble if i'd like it.
Jeff if you like sours this is a must try! Its fantastic. I had the oppurtunity to drink this beer multiple times and its still a very memorable beer in my mind no doubt about it. Happy hunting!
Just post an FT:ISO with what you are willing to give up then. You've only heard from 2 people and I'm sure the beers you are after have traded many more times than that for many different bottles. As an aside, I'm not sure why you would think a two year old 1500 bottle highly rated and highly desirable limited release would go for anything less than King Henry or Vanilla. And the BB Kriek owner is in the exact same boat you are - they have a beer they know they absolutely love and would be taking a gamble on trading for something like King Henry. That's the whole point of trading - to try something different...
Actually got a handful of PM's from people about what they gave up. It's not a matter of rarity I am concerned with. It's a matter of quality. Known versus unknown. I'd trade KH for beers of comparable quality and rarity that I have tried before and know I loved, but why risk it on a beer you dont know about? Thats an element of "the trading game" that baffles me. Trying something different isnt always worth trying when you have to give up what you know you love. Call it inertia. I call it logic.
I wanted to try the BB Kriek and the Gueuze more than I wanted to drink KH or BCBVS again. Seems perfectly reasonable to me. If I didn't like them as much as KH and BCBVS, then so be it. Life goes on. I have a lot of other really good beer in my basement that I need to drink. BTW, I was and still am very happy with this trade, both before and after I drank the BB Kriek & Gueuze.
Well, if you're trying to win the trading game, then sure, it's logical. If you're just trying to share good beer with people who haven't had it and get good beer that you haven't tried in return, then no, there's not much logic to it at all. You (presumably) have extras of a beer you have already had, and you want a beer that somebody else has already had. Both are highly rated, both are limited, yadda yadda yadda... it sounds like a perfect trading match made in heaven to me.
I agree. I thought it was a huge let down. Too much cherry, not very sour, and overly sweet with too much bourbon.
