I do not think they have done it before, I can’t find any ratings anywhere. Luckily I live 10 minutes from the Mothership so will definitely try it Wednesday and maybe pick up a few 6ers. The Mothership series is always really reasonable, usually $20 for a 6er.

For some reason FedEx delivered my Barleywines on a Sunday. In the snow. I feel bad about that, but anyway, this is one of them.

I've been drinking a lot of sweet, barrel aged Barleywine lately and this is certainly another. This one though has plenty of hops and biting oak at the finish providing a nice contrast. Good stuff.

I think mine are 2019. I’m too lazy to get up and go look though.

Yeah I had the 2013 in in 2020, still held up. A store near me has them for quite cheap ($8ish, IIRC). I should probably stock up on them

Wow. I don't remember the exact dollar amount, but I want to say my local bottle shop had that beer for close to $30. I splurged on it for my 2,500th beer review.

A lot of the time - the Brewer's labeling. Compared to Barleywine, often beers labeled "Strong Ale" and "Old Ale" may be lower abv and "Scotch Ale/Wee Heavy" may be sweeter. But you can find plenty of exceptions to all that, especially with American breweries. Even if you look at the BJCP style guidelines, some of their listed "Commercial Examples" are beers that the brewery labels with other names.

Definitely, it's probably better than the one I'm about to post. Had one a few days ago really liked it. How about you?

English Barleywines and American Barleywines are two pretty different and distinct styles of beer, at least to us who grew up under the BeerAdvocate umbrella. Doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with where they were brewed. But we’re not talking RIS vs American Double/Imperial Stout here, which seems to be completely arbitrary. English Barleywines and American Barleywines should have different and distinct flavor and aroma profiles. Everyone is of course free to have their own distinctions but seems odd to throw out what is essentially two different recognized styles of beer in preference of a non-barrel aged vs barrel aged categorization.

For a long time I have wished to find a coffee barleywine. I have never tried one and I think they sound amazing. Recently my wish came true! But it also has pumpkin pie spices:grimacing: For trade, 1 gently used monkey paw...

"Pumpkin spice latte-inspired Barleywine • 10% ABV • Fresh barleywine brewed with pumpkin, nutmeg , cinnamon, clove, and ginger, then conditioned on Onyx Coffee's "Geometry Blend" of coffee beans and a final treatment of Vietnamese cinnamon."

I can't say I taste anything barleywine-y, the spices really dominate. There is enough sweetness to keep them in check for the most part. The coffee is faint at the end and there is too much lingering ginger. Not bad, just not for me.

Excellent beverage. Has all the great sweet flavors I enjoy in a wheatwine, but better balanced than most. :beers:

Well, the temps in Wisconsin have FINALLY cooperated for me to open a vintage Bigfoot. I actually decided to pass on a 1986 and went back a few years to 1984 when the labels were still black and white and the caps were solid gold.

Wow, never had anything close to that old! Can you share any thoughts? I'm extremely curious.
