California is 90% of this country. I still think it's too expensive. Bought a 2013 old stock ale and 4 pack of BA TenFidy and at was still less that the 50 they want for it. No one buys this shit.notice that 2018 one next to it? They just sit. Maybe tomorrow it'll be cheaper

It's no myth. $18.99 each. Since it's my 1st time trying it I got one. Store had 6 or 7 cases on an end cap. Looks like I shoulda splashed out for more! >2021 enjoy by Aug 29, 2026. Chairs! :beers:

Yeah, the Cherry Wood retails for 18.99. The other major variants: Cola & Fourteen retail for 24.99. And the rarer stuff go up from there. I got the Double Barrel Toasted Barrel for $55 making it the most expensive beer I've paid for (at least $/oz) :flushed:

Did you think it was worth it for the price?

Yep I saw Cola & 14 but since I know I like choco & cherry the cherry wood seemed the natural go-to brew...and I've yet to have it. Enjoy your savory DBTB. Awesome! Cheers!

    Of course not!

(*Actually, of this year's beers I've only tried the Fourteen in a bar pour. It's good - an enjoyable BCBS with some adjuncts to give it personality. But is it twice the price good? Nope! That's not to say that people won't enjoy the variants. I just think they're priced due to scarcity/FOMO. But that's capitalism for ya.)

I’ve purchased about 6 of the 21 base, I think it’s a solid beer for the price. I couldn’t bring myself to pay 55 for the db, or even 20-25 for the cherry, cola or 14 variants

Whenever people talk about "Is a beer worth it," what always comes up to me is whether or not there are good substitutes at a better price for the amount of satisfaction received. For the price, BCBS Regular is far and away the best available BA stout (to my palate). I've never lived someplace where there is something as good for a better price (and certainly not more available). The closest substitute that I've come across anyone ever mentioning is Revolution Brewing's Deth's Tar - which, for me, still isn't as good, and I'd pay the extra small $/oz difference to have BCBS.

Regarding the variants and the "is it worth it": In general, I think the barrel treatements (at $20 - $60) are generally not 'worth it' because there are good substitutes elsewhere, since it is basically just a "well made BA stout". The barrel doesn't change it that much to make it stand out (for most people) compared to the regular. Then when you talk about the adjunct variants, whether it be coffee (which was perrenial favorite for years) or something like Midnight orange from a few years ago, again...I think it comes out to what else is around. In general, I think most of the 'adjunct variants' aren't worth it to most people.

That said, one that really is for me is Fourteen. It's my favorite since Rare15. For my palate, it is so well done, with nothing else at a considerably cheaper $/oz, that it is absolutely worth the price to me. The closest substitute I have heard anyone mention is abraxas, but it's not even the same adjunct, not to mention it doesn't taste the same, it's not BA, and it's still $20-30/bomber. Not exactly like Abraxas is winning the price competition of the year.

What always comes up for me is "Please post jpegs of your most recent pay stub, last year's W-2, current bank account balance and 401k statement (of course, feel free to black out all personal info, we just need the see the numerals after the '$')".

I feel that way when I see someone post a picture of a case of a beer that is $25. Not so much if someone just posts a few beers. For me, BCBS is a splurge. It's one of the few beers that I buy each year that is more than $4-5/can.

    Storage.
BA's servers don't have the space to store the massive number of photos that are uploaded during WBAYDN, NBW, and the style tastings so image hosting is farmed out.

I hope this pushes GI to price their variants better. I think value on BCBS is fine (although wtf, 14.99 is on sale price @ BevMo? LOL MSRP is 13.99). But at nearly double the price, the variants are not 2x better. Not going to go into the super variants that are $50+

It is far more likely the variants continue to go up in price rather than down.

It seems the high dollar variants are the only ones that actually go sold up, so I definitely agree.
