The first new release (well, re-release) of the year has arrived: Jack's Abby German Style Porter (https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/26520/343219/). See https://twitter.com/JacksAbby/status/1481694037732114440. Unfortunately, it is available only at the Beer Hall. If you pick one up, let us know how it is.

On a side note, their online ordering system shows a 4-pack at $11 (and the same for Framinghammer). Not sure if it is a limited time thing or if $11 is their new specialty price. Either way, really nice to see a brewery lowering prices.

Went today for the first time in a while and grabbed some old favorites. Got new 4 packs of JA's German Porter and 2% Grisette. Should be interesting to see how much flavor can come through for such a low abv. It's my first of the 2% Beer Initiative series. Also picked up like 6 bottles of wild ales from Springdale, as they rarely ever disappoint in that style

Right before the pandemic hit, i brewed a beer with Jacks & some of the team. It was a Cream Ale with Lucky Charms. We called it Mularkey Charms. It was pretty solid. Scheduled to hit draft and we did a Jameson (or Irish Whiskey) version. Never hit draft. Thanks a lot Corona.

Anyway, I miss hanging at Jacks. I went there a lot. My son (named Jack) used to call it “My Abby.”

Had the last of my red tape stash last night and I feel like every year i say to myself that the last few cans taste best. Seems like with some weeks/months on it there are some subtle dark fruit flavors that come out... or could be my imagination. Regardless, getting more today for the storm..

Has the non-barrel-aged Framinghammer been in stores at all this season? I feel like it has usually come out a while after the barrel-aged bottles. I keep seeing those, but haven't seen the "regular" cans at all.

I happened to find it in December using JA's beer finder, but it is long gone from the store it is still listed at. It is definitely much harder to find it this year. That is true for everything JA at least in NY.

Thanks. I guess I just missed it if it was in local stores at all.

I didn't see Framinghammer in stores near me at any point this year but got a few packs from the brewery around Christmas. I'd guess that last year's availability was simply due to all (or nearly all) of the batch not set aside for aging going into cans. This year they likely held quite a bit in kegs for higher-margin on-premises pours. It has been out of stock in cans at the brewery for a couple of weeks; last year I believe it was still in stock near the end of February.

I’ve noticed the same with the House Lager 15 packs. Picked up a 12 pack of dated Green State lager instead, as I didn’t want to take a chance on a stale 15 pack of House Lager.

i normally wouldn't buy non-dated beer, but i don't recall seeing post shift 12's last time i was at this store. tasted excellent and quite fresh.

Was trying to buy some Jack's Abby last Friday and spent several minutes trying to find packaging dates on a few Jack's Abby 12-packs/15-packs (Post Shift, House Lager). Couldn't find dates on any of them. Thought I was going blind. Kind of shocked that you found the cans in the packs weren't dated either.

Beer without packaging dates is a hard pass for me so, sadly, I think I'm gonna wait a couple months before I check out the Jack's Abby stock at my local grocery store again. Hope they fix this issue for future batches.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I just went into our cooler and spot check a couple dozen cases over all of brands and they all had dates. What I think the issue is, is that we have a very narrow white band to aim the date for and if the dater gets misaligned or cases come into it askew it prints on a colored area. This is still usually readable but it can become hard to spot, especially when it has darker colors like House.

This is one of the worst offenders I found. The date is there but it is hard to read. We are working to more consistently hit the white band. The date can also occasionally rub off, in most of those instances you should be able to look at an adjacent case. This should not be a chore on your part, so we have some work to do to improve things, but we have not stopped dating cases.

As to dates on the bottom of the can, those are more prone to being wiped off, but it should be very rare that this happens to an entire case. @dental If you still have the case/cans around it would be very helpful if you could double check them and let me know the results.
