Thanks for the heads up. I picked up M-43 the last time I was in Asheville and loved it. Regretted not getting the Boss Tweed but my wife was with me and my haul on the counter was already quite large......she is usually not with me when I go on beer runs and doesn’t realize how expensive this hobby is.

A new brewery picked up the original Aslin location in Herndon: Juicy Brewing Co. They're doing a soft opening now, and, while I haven't tried any of their stuff, the early buzz on Facebook and Untappd seems positive.

Side note: they're leaning heavily on the fact that it's Aslin's original spot in their marketing strategy.

I’ve had a couple beers From Species X which I think spawned from someone in Aslin as well. Pretty good. Heard good things of both but agree, they are hoping in part the former Aslin spot will help the clout to try their beers.

Any hidden breweries in Richmond that are must hit besides the big ones?

I stopped by Juicy Brewing for the soft opening today. They had 4 beers available, a Double IPA, a Triple IPA, a schwartzbier, and a kolsch. I really enjoyed all of them.

What do you consider the big ones?

I’ll throw out a plug for my buddy’s place Richbrau, they’ve been killing it recently. I always enjoy Basic City as well.

Aside from "the big ones" you referenced, I would definitely recommend Final Gravity, Richbrau, Basic City, and Vasen.

Yes, if you go to Veil-original location in SA you gotta go to Vasen, its literally around the corner.

So their marketing strategy is pissing off their neighbors?:grimacing:
If you're looking for a brewery that does non-hype styles really well, I'd check out Ardent. Bingo has a killer black lager too (and does lagers well in general). If you're in Scott's Addition, you should check out ZZQ for some really good BBQ.

So is Hardywood not one of the big ones, or just not a place that anyone would recommend?

I would definitely recommend them. Their West Creek facility is gorgeous. I have not been to their renovated OG spot on Ownby Lane but looks like a great place to hang out as well.

I think they get lost in shuffle be being "a big one" because a lot people really only know them for what can be found on store shelves and don't have the hyped up regular releases of hazies, pastry stouts and sours. They are also pretty widely distribute so people think of them as such but are definitely in the conversation. They still do really good beer, especially their BA stuff, and I would definitely visit but when non-locals are seeking recs it's usually the ones already mentioned as the breweries people hear about from afar.

Old Nation landed this week. I've seen shops from NOVA, RVA, Charlottesville, Roanoke, and Lynchburg all post on social media the past couple days so probably solid coverage across the state. Didn't check the others I got yet but the Boss Tweed had a canned date 1/26/2022.

    M-43
    DDH M-43
    B-43
    Boss Tweed
    Fritts

Also, side note.....Anyone in the Harrisonburg area go check out Midtowne Market. They received their first delivery of Other Half beers last week. I believe it may be one of the first drops of OH in the Valley.
