@AzfromOz started yesterday’s thread a bit earlier, and it’s been two hours since the last post, so I figured let’s start the weekend’s virtual bar. Sometimes you just think “sleep is for the weak”, so why not watch some Book of Boba Fett and drink another beer? [IMG]

Thanks for starting @mschrei - I was too busy watching Ash Barty win the Australian Open tennis to remember to kick off the thread! It's Nearly 10pm Saturday evening here, and we have our first Australian Australian Open champion in 44 years as of 30 or so minutes ago.

You'd think an Aussie beer would be the patriotic thing to do, but I had a hankering for some Belgian goodness earlier, so I duly present a traditional Belgian barleywine...Clash of the Titans by De Struise Brouwers, a 12% monster of the beer that, while tasty, has a little too much booze at the back end. There's some burnt caramel and the usual dark fruits in there trying to fight off the booze, and it's a lingering and tasty caramel at that, but ultimately the alcohol isn't able to hide under the caramel's skirts. It gets overwhelmed and there's a distinct bourbonny cask finish that just doesn't sit well for me. I know a barleywine should come with a kick but I want that kick balanced, like Daniel la Rousso on a wooden pole.

Anyway, have a great Saturday everyone; time to settle in for the all-Aussie men's doubles final!

    Cheers!

Coming to ya live with a style that's so versatile from Hyllie Bryggeri on a dreary Saturday in Malmö. Hyllie Lager and Nyctophobia.

Congrats to Ash! I was hoping that would end up being the big story in the tournament, instead of the unfortunate pretournament bs with what’s his name. Cheers!

Have a good Saturday. I was up playing Halo Infinite for 6 hours last night with my college roommate and his brothers. We are going to do some more tonight. I had some leftover 5 can chili at about 4 AM. Did not melt the cheese lol. I am working on the tutorial for the Main Assembly game on steam.

I got about 10 cases of random beer left from all my overbuying in Michigan, but we are working on it over here. 2018 is tasting amazing as expected. Barrel is amazingly well integrated now, more vanilla than I recall. Coffee is still pretty nutty but subdued. The balance is perfect.

hair of the dog. Not similar to the Heineken I had in any way other than color. I understand euro pale lager category and “german” pils. I have drank a ton of becks and feel like once AB acquired them it tastes different than before but still good. Heineken had better head retention and was less bitter more of a comparison between a helles and a pils. It’s that noticeable. And for clear reasons but a lot of people tend to compare these beers so maybe I’ll do a side by side in the other thread.

Beer coffee and harms way to wake me up. A little too stoned last night.

    peace

My newly acquired hand-me-down FitBit told me I slept poorly last night. No worries, that’s what weekend naps are designed to correct. For now, I’m inventing a white Christmas for the GF and me (haven’t checked how the nor’easter affected the northern half of my coast yet)

Good morning, BAs! I'm getting to some new beer reviews before I (likely) lose power. :grinning:

Coincidentally joining @JamFuel with the music selection this morning. I really enjoy this album (even though it's a little But Rock, with some almost '80s-style solos), and the video for probably my favorite song from it just dropped. :grinning:

Not the heaviest song from the album, but the one that hits me the best. Whitechapel with not just cleans, but harmonies? Layered cleans with growls? Picardy thirds? What are they, evolving??? :grinning:

Ha! I just watched a music theory video (Bennett or Neely) that mentioned Picardy thirds. I don't know what they are... yet, but the coincidence is uncanny.

Unless you are a YouTube bot

LOL I suppose you can't rule it out.

I was listening to the song as I typed out my post, and that part of the refrain just stood out. It's not particularly common in metal (using a major third in a triad, or a "brighter" or "happier" note, while in a minor key; it's far more often used to end a song, leaving an impression of hope or optimism in an otherwise somber piece), but it occasionally leaves the classical realm and invades other genres.

Now let's see if the feedback loop goes both ways, and my next YouTube recommendation is someone reviewing your beer ...

    G'morning BA's!

Another Saturday morning. Gotta go pick up my daughter at USF again this morning, then taking the wife for her pulmonary test later.

    Juice me!

Not the greatest photo in the world but I’m here

soft scramble sando and becks a little kegs and eggs later tonight I go in to clean this mess outside I have several hours to kill so I’m prepping apple fritters for the long haul.

and to correct myself from yesterday. This becks tastes better than last nights. I may have been a little too stoned to have proper judgement but as you see my one comparison is that there is again...zero head retention. Which in this style is a must for me but still my favorite bbq/party beer

[IMG] Kicking off the weekend with this new one. Galaxy, Citra, and Vic Secret. Very tasty. @Roguer it is starting slow in central NH. We purchased a generator and I hope we don’t need it, but it feels good to know we are ready Incase. Cheers all.

We still haven't hooked up a generator. I dialed up the heat a bit so we have some reserve if necessary. Plus I can always flee to my car for safe heat and internet if we lose power. :grinning:

The snow here isn't bad, probably 6-8" (as judged by eye ... through a window ... while sipping on a beer  ). I'm more worried about the wind, which is almost certainly worse the closer you get to the coast.

I think I'll join you very soon with an IPA.

Good morning BAs! I hope our BA brethren in the E/NE weather the storm well with no adverse affects. Chilly, gusty walk with dogs this morning, 46° and gusts up to 20mph, feels like 41°. Nevertheless, it is sunny and the dogs enjoyed their morning romp…coffee time - Cassian Sunset:

Not drinking a beer yet, but this is what it looks like outside at the moment. So far not too bad, and it's a pretty light fluffy snow. Already cleared the end of the driveway once - my neighbor said he'd plow the end of the driveway occasionally all day - that's a huge help because that's really the pain in the ass part of these storms. It's still early and the wind is blowing. I did all my prep work to make some vegetarian chili for dinner. In the meantime, just going to sit back and relax and binge on some old Columbo episodes on Tubi. Stay safe all - I'll be back with a beer in hand later on.

Getting another one in before things get worse outside. Rapidly approaching a foot of snow, but it's the wind that gives me cause for concern.
