I just posted a side-by-side taste comparison with Heady Topper in the can versus glass. John Kimmich recommends drinking it from the can plus such BA luminaries as @jonphisher and @TheIPAHunter swear by that method, too.

Myself, I prefer the glass (the beer looks great poured and the aroma is wider - and I use a shaker pint glass, so perhaps not the best glassware for the beer, but it's what I use regardless of beer style). I give that the mouthfeel is better from the can. Anyway, Jon thought he was in the minority. I think the preference may be more evenly split.

Anyway, no right or wrong answers with this one, just curiosity as to how other BeerAdvocates like this beer (or others that may be seem different whether enjoyed from the can or poured into your glassware of choice).

I would drink Heady even out of a dirty shoe.

I used to pour it in a glass but I totally get what Kimmich is talking about. That layer of CO2 that coats the surface of the liquid when in the can makes it taste fresh for a lot longer than if you pour it. Tasty either way but I stick to the can nowadays.

When I stayed in Stowe, almost directly in front of the surrealistic brewery, I used the two glasses I purchased at the brewery, one a small twelve ounce glass (which was great for their stout), the other a Teku glass. I thought it was odd they they only had those two options at the brewery. Not a big fan of either, but I did used them for Heady, as I only drink Miller Lite out of the can, or Corona out of the bottle. When I got home I used the Dogfish glass mainly for the aroma and the relaxation of handling the glass (it fits snuggly in my hand).

I agree with @The_Kriek_Freak, and I really do prescribe to what John Kimmich says. This is the beer to end all beers for me. I'd drink it straight from a tub after it sat overnight. I don't even care.

I voted “makes no difference to me”. Primary reason being, if I have to drink from the can, obviously I notice a difference but it doesn’t always mean the experience is diminished by any significant amount. I enjoy both. If I ever have a “Heady”, maybe I’ll try one from the can and then one from a glass and get back with you. Cheers.

When I want to prolong the experience it's better from the can, especially in my Yeti.

Never having had a "Heady" I'd filll my trusty Lagunitas mason jar, and drink the rest from a can. Personally, beer is better poured.

Surprised by the results so far-overwhelmingly in favor of the glass. I only poured Heady one time-to give a proper review. And while I can't put my finger on what it was, it was different out of a glass. Definitely prefer the can.

Drank one from the can last night. It was sublime.

I prefer it out of the can. Of course it’s tasty either way. I like the carbonation and pouring it to me makes it flat faster. Idk if there’s science behind that if it’s true or not. Seems so

and not to change subjects. I’m team focal banger and prefer both out of can

i use a glass, but god's honest truth, I find Heady totally overrated. It's pretty good, but not that special. I just don't get the hype.

Yes. I prefer it in a can or a glass.

    :sunglasses:

I actually did a side-by-side of this a few months back and "technically" thought it was more intensely aromatic and retained it's flavor profile longer from the can, but I'm old school - I like to see what I'm drinking. A lot.

So count one vote for "glass," though I can enjoy it either way. But I prefer to see it in the glass in all of its majestic beer nerd beauty.

The first of only a handful of times I've had Heady, @John_M was kind enough to send me two. So, I did the only sensible thing: I poured one into a glass and drank the other from the can. Switched back and forth between quaffs. IIRC, I preferred the glass.

When that day comes, it'll be in a glass. Of course, I'll take a sip out of the can first.

I drink heady from the can. I get more dank hoppy bitterness when I drink it from the can and I get more citrus flavors when I drink it from a glass. I prefer dank hoppy bitterness flavors for heady. This beer was never a NEIPA for me other than the fact it's brewed in NE. I think the profile leans far more west coast which I love about it.

To me, it’s just a classic standard. It’s perfectly balanced, full of hops, with a malt profile that isn’t lost. It isn’t a modern New England hop bomb, and it’s not a wcipa, it’s right in the middle. In 2022, I think it’s a fairly unique DIPA.

As far as glass v can, I tend to drink it from the can, but I will definitely do a side by side at some point.
