Right but the question is not whether or not you think it is stupid, you are well within your rights to think it is dumb, and well within your rights to not drink it, the question is whether or not it was intentional, which gimmick or not, at least in that instance, it seems to have been.

So at least in the instance of JK, though I suppose technically this proves nothing, here: https://www.craftbeer.com/news/brewery-news/jester-king-brewery-beer-in-green-bottles

I'll also say that that post from Garrett Crowell comes off a bit holier than thou, but that's not really at issue.

All I can say with the other green bottles beers is, many of these brewers (known for doing it) still do it, and I doubt they don't know what it does to their beer.

Okay, one out of how many? Who have decided to recreate (very accepted) off characters. Show me more crazy brewers, prove it's a real trend.

BTW -- how's that experiment working for them 7 years in?
(Don't see any green bottle beer at their current website)

In the meantime, I'll stick to unskunked beers. When I can.

Oh sure, I can be a little blunt when proclaiming my opinions. I just came into this hobby (yeah I guess you can call it that) with the unwavering opinion this is bad, and basically everyone here agreed at the time. Now some people, and breweries don't think so. Will have to agree to disagree, and certainly nothing wrong with that.

I never claimed it was a trend, my argument was only that some brewers do it on purpose but I'll say Dupont still puts ALBV in green bottles in the states, Cuvee Des Jonquilles (technically a BDG I know) is in Green Bottles, Brasserie De Blauguies still does it, Brasserie Fantôme still does it, Brasserie Thiriez still does it with at least some of their beers, and to move into Gueuze (which some people consider farmhouse ales and some don't) territory: Drei Fonteinen does it, Cantillon does it, Lindemans still does it with some but not all of their beers, Giradin appears to still do it, Hanssens appears to still do it. Again though, the point was never to suggest that it was a trend, the only point I made is that some breweries do it on purpose. If you want me to give you half-way, I could say that many brewers see no reason not to continue doing it.

I remember crossing from Alsace into Germany and saw this on occasion. These are really great beers, even Kronenbourg, which I drank in France and Karlsruhe just north and east....As a 20 year old I was in beer heaven and in my genetic web. It was a great problem.

Well... there was this from Charlie Papazian in the 3rd edition (not sure of other eds) of his The Complete Joy of Homebrewing, after a recipe for a Corona Extra clone I assume:

Okay, I'll give you that Jester King did it "on purpose" (for whatever weird reason), but if you're suggesting that anyone using a green bottle for packaging does so for the direct purpose of skunking a beer, I disagree wholeheartedly.

After all, brewers like Pilsner Urquell and Hofbrau Munich finally woke up from the green bottle marketing trend and turned to brown and cans.

The vast majority of beer brewers and drinkers don't enjoy skunky beer -- look at this thread.

That’s all beer. Any good beer should taste better as it warms cuz it’s not numbing your mouth as much. We taste more at warmer temps. 45-55 degrees is way better than the 29° you see at twin peaks or other “craft” sports bars

I am not suggesting that all people using green bottles do it on purpose, I am suggesting that there are many that do it, knowing what it will do the beer. And I am saying than when I bottle, I do it on purpose because I like what it does to the beer. I never suggested people should like it, merely that I did, and that there were many breweries who bottled green knowing what it would do to the beer, and they did it anyway, which would lead me to believe that at the very least, what it did doesn’t bother them. You’re responding to claims I’m not making. I’m not trying to convince people to like skunky beer, nor am I trying to convince people that every person to ever use a green bottle did it for flavor reason, what I am saying is that many do it, knowing what it contributes, and that I like what it contributes. The entire initial point of bringing all of this up was to show that sometimes a bug can become a feature, hence a pro-should be judged on how the person using it likes the result it produces, and at the very least, I hope people can acknowledge that there is nothing wrong with that. Like what you like, that’s your business.

Bombay is a botanical miracle and my wife loves it still.....John Prine at Aycock Auditorium in 1981, driving a friend's big red Plymouth Fury convertible, after I shot 71 at Starmount was a great freaking day. We had Bombay and more....
