Good day BAs! Off to a rainy start here on the tundra of NW PA, rainy and 34 degrees. Doesn't bode well for Mrs. Lizard's Dr. appointment later. Today's New Breakfast Beer:

Good morning @Ozzylizard and thanks for starting it.

Paix Dieu, a Belgian tripel and a very good one I occasionally purchase. Not widely known though maybe @Beer-Panda or other Euros have had the opportunity to find it. It’s 10%, goes down dangerously fast nonetheless. Also can be found in a bigger, 750ml bottle but… not now.

    Tune? Tune:

I didn't get around to posting this yesterday, so here you go.

Holler time yesterday afternoon. And they have one of my favorite beers on CASK right now. So, they make this beer called Stouty with a Chance of Peanuts. This is of coarse what it sounds like, and nothing I really care about at all (never got into the peanuts and stout thing, and much prefer less junk in my beer). Actually for one of those kinds of beers, its not over the top so its not too bad. Holler is always going to be balanced, so that is not a surprise, but still nothing I particularly care about.

Anyway, the point is, whenever they to the Peanuts beer, they always have just Stout on Cask. Which is just the base no adjuncts, no cheese ball name, just Stout Cask Conditioned, and this is something I'm always looking forward to. Since they have done this a few times now, might as well add it to the database.

Pours a near opaque black color. A dense, but silky smooth cascading beige head forms. Excellent retention and lace. This is a looker.
The nose is so simple but damn good. Roast, creamed coffee, light chocolate and a touch of dark fruitiness.
Taste wise, all the roast is up front. With coffee and chocolate flavors. A touch of fruity esters that comes off as dark fruits, this can vary depending on what day you have the cask though. Beautifully simple and enjoyable.
A medium body with excellent carbonation for a cask. A textured, silky smoothness. Which all leads to a really easy to drink stout.

I couldn't care less about the Peanut Stout, but always look forward to this whenever available. This is a perfect example of why less is more, and how cask can elevate simple styles and beers and makes them great. More breweries should do be doing this. All around excellent.

Overall score is 4.39, a rare sold A score for me.

Oh and a Czech My Phone Pils, yeah this one is excellent too and one of my staples around town.

Good morning, Advocates! I'm back home for, well, not necessarily a long weekend, but at least some work from home time. And since I'm done with my coffee, I figure I may as well have some "coffee." :grinning:

    Good evening to all Advocates,
I uncorked this late last night with a friend of mine pizza chef, as soon as he finished his shift.

Brouwerij De Ranke (BEL) - WIJNBERG Vintage 2020 - Oud Bruin (5,8%)

    75 cl bottle (12 €).
    Vintage 2020 - On the cap : "Best before: 02 July 2025".
It's a blend of a young Oud Bruin and one aged two years in oak barrels, with the addition of Browerij Omer Vander Ghinste's CUVEÉ DES JACOBINS beer (pure lambic aged at least 18 months in oak barrels before bottling) .
Color between dark red and light brown, with ruby reflections.
    Soft foam, not indifferent.
As soon as uncorked it seems to have opened a red wine: almost tannic notes then wood, red fruit in alcohol (cherries), red grapes.
In the mouth it is a very particular Oud Bruin, very different for examples from that of T'Verzet (which for me is a bit of a term of comparison) there is no acetic astringency, but the drink is much softer and rounder: the fruity note reminiscent of cherries, caramelized notes, red fruit, together with a polite sense of wood that has smoothed the edges making this Oud Bruin easy to drink thanks to a balanced but well-present sweetness in which peeps a sour note that does not take the scene.
Balanced beer, very easy to drink in which the acid note does not exceed but fits into a very wide range of vinous, fruity, woody reflections etc.
In my opinion, it would age very well, with that acid note that would certainly become sharper, increasing its general complexity perhaps at the expense of the ease of drinking.

An incredible picture of a beautiful beer; pale, milky yellow body, solidly opaque; immensely dense head, white with gorgeous rounded caps of foam speckling the top of the head. Outstanding aroma; banana bread; vanilla wafer. Amazing flavor, nicely balancing a mild banana-like sweetness with just a touch of sourness to add character; pineapple; vanilla; biscuit; banana cream pie. Heavy body; dense and chewy; very soft on the palate; sweet mouthfeel with a very mild acidity in the background.

I don't care for fruity, slushy, smoothy beers as a rule, yet there is no denying the exceptional job done crafting this one. The balance and complexity are divine. This is just a wonderful beer!
