Okay, I'll start a thread -- just saw they've announced their new ESB: Thatch Whistler Pub Ale.

Can't wait for February to get back into the Lake Zurich strip mall.

Do they distribute to any shops around Chicago? I'd love to try some of their stuff when I come up for the Revolution release this weekend, but they might be further up in the burbs than I can easily go that day.

Worth calling the brewery and asking where in the city you might find them.

I have another 4-pack of the Fest and a 4-pack of the Keller calling my name for Feb.

Maybe we need to plan a summer BA get-together in LZ?

Oooh, didn't mean to get your hopes up. I got the Fest at a local retailer with a surplus. Pretty sure RT proper has been out of stock for a long time.

While everyone goes to LZ for overhyped Haze and Pastry, these guys are the real deal. Amazing Saisons too.

You know, I've had the German-style Pils at RT proper (and loved it), but I've never seen it in cans... that I recall (he quickly checked his reviews for notes ).*

*Nope. Reviewed the Helles early on, but not the RT Pils. Yet.

Anyone tried the Thatch Whistler ESB?

Found some and tried it yesterday, but I'm still forming a verdict.

It's a little hoppier and more bitter than Fullers, and has a roasty touch -- even kind of thin.

I was sort of hoping for a sweeter, more toffee-ish flavor, but one can isn't enough for a full assessment.

On tap (possibly cask?) onsite will be nice, too.

Looks like I've fallen into the "American Palate Trap" with ESB, according to the BJCP:
I'll definitely keep these guidelines in mind for a review because I think RT may have hit the mark closer than I thought.

Thatch Whistler has been on cask for a few weeks now! I’ve stopped by for a few pints here and there.

Yeah, I knew it was, just haven't been in there in a long time.

What did you think of it?

I love a great English Ale! OG recipe Honkers from Goose Fulton is my go-to still after all these years. But I’ll drink whatever is on cask at RT. Quiz Show was awesome too!

I'm a big fan. Ironically enough, RT pretty much introduced me to ESB/English milds, I had never really ventured into that style before. I'm a member of their "Fellowship of Fools" club, and the first "exclusive" release to members first was the Quiz Night, which I thought was an interesting move.

I'm not sure which I prefer, Quiz Night or this new Thatch Whistler.. all I know is I can drink pint after pint and I love the fact that they consistently have this style on the beer engine.
