Relaxing outside on a gorgeous 76 degree chamber of commerce day in the high desert. Got the rust bucket (smoker) ready to make beef short ribs tomorrow aka “brisket on a stick” and a little tidying up for the big game. Have a wonderful evening everybody, cheers!

 

Now available in Virginia. I’ve had m43 before but this is my first time having boss tweed pretty good but I’ll be switching to something lighter for the rest of the evening.

Was a pretty busy day today, got a lot accomplished. Fired up the grill for dinner, it got up to 60 degrees today but rapidly declining now, currently at 47 degrees F. Edwards sausage with some broccoli, onions, peppers and mushrooms Had a delicious Caribbean sauce on the vegetables. Now I need to relax with a good beer.

I bought a four pack of Boss Tweed yesterday. First time I have seen it in Richmond. Boss Tweed is next in the lineup for tonight.

 

Sipping this one while I take down the Christmas tree. Yeah you read that correctly. I know it’s mid February. DONT JUDGE ME!

(and yes it’s a real tree, and 16ft, sooo….. this is a task that needs a big beer).

Pours jet black, decent sized mocha colored head that dissipates quickly leaving essentially no lacing. Aroma is chocolate, big strawberry, more mild coconut. It literally does smell like strawberry ice cream which is kinda crazy, but not like it a junky super artificial pastry stout kind of way. Can’t really explain what I mean there but if you are NOT a pastry stout fan you probably get what I’m saying. Anyways, base beer roastiness is present and compliments the adjuncts nicely. Bourbon barrel characters on the mild end for a BCBS but are there. Wonderful nose. Taste follows, is less adjunct heavy, although they are definitely there. It’s roasted malt up front, followed by big berry notes, then oaky vanilla barrel notes, with berries coming back on the finish. Strawberry works exceptionally well here, surprised to hear this is the first time strawberries were incorporated in BCBS. Mouthfeel is full bodied, appropriate carbonation, ABV well masked. It’s well balanced and not cloying, so it’s very drinkable. Overall, this is a phenomenal beer. Balanced, complex, adjuncts shine but don’t dominate, rather compliment, the base beer. One of the better props to date and easily the best of the 2021 BCBS variants with adjuncts.

Dogfish Head Where the Wild Hops Are.......first time trying this one. It's a real easy drinker, not as hoppy as I expected. To me it drinks more like a light PA than an IPA.....YMMV, cheers!!

I haven't had it in a long time. I remember liking it too but I wonder what I'd think now. Of course the ones we get here have to go through an epic journey so perhaps it's not a fair to judge them. I need to try it in Germany (or at least somewhere back in Europe).
