Here in Ohio, I have seen some of my favorite craft beers prices jump up one or two bucks a sixer in the past few weeks. 12.99 for a sixer of Heavy Seas Double Cannon, 11.99 for Founders Porter (was 9.99) etc. Just wondering if this is an Ohio deal or are prices spiking everywhere? I realize cost of living always goes up , so I am just venting here.

Just like everything else...it's going to cost us more.

So, yeah seen prices jump on six packs anywhere from a $1.50 to $2.00.

Local brewery mentioned their aluminum costs alone went up 40% in 2021. He expected breweries to raise prices this year to match the market.

I mean, don't they have too? Ingredients, packaging, and shipping have all increased outside of normal inflation. You just need to invest properly to hedge against the increases and you won't really notice. or just drink more, and you still won't notice. Whatever works for you.

Sorry, and thanks for the early warning. Inflation is the highest right now in a very long time. That will show up as irregular increases in pricing for specific products. I have just upped my spending on beer by ordering from abroad. Keeping the volume in check and embracing every beer is the key.

Yes, quite a bit. I am getting much more price conscious of late. I was not as hard core as I was for years with price but I let up the last few years. I’m getting back to bargain hunting again.

    Enjoy

Plus, so many places required to increase minimum wages, which forces up costs of goods and services to cover the overhead, which makes it more difficult to buy the goods and services the wage increase was meant to mitigate…

Can't blame inflation for this one. Been paying the same since early 2000s. It's about time for an increase.

I am still paying the same $10.99 for a mixer six-pack for the past 3 years and cannot complain. For some beers I wouldn't complain because $10 for a six-pack has always been quite a deal. However, for the $20 4-pack NEIPA, inflation could make me not buy an overpriced beer that I already thought was price-inflated. We'll see where the NEIPA's price hike lands as summer approaches...

Nice and tight, like algebra. I think "the economy" is more like an undiscovered and mysterious mathematics.

:flushed: I’m not casting aspersions. Believe me. I’ve been through some dire times with a wife and two young kids in the past. At face value, it seems like a good idea, but I’ve seen it put small businesses out of business.

You know for a fact that a raised minimum wage put specific businesses out of business?

Yes. Twin Lo beverages in Niagara Falls. Nice little craft beer shop and bottle return joint. I used to talk beer with John and Charlie on my lunch break, pre-pandemic. John laid it out that simply when NY started the “living wage” increases. If they had 4 guys working that day, if they didn’t bring in enough cans and/or sell enough beer to cover their pay, they either had to send someone home early or start reducing their workforce. Under two years…gone. You don’t think there’s a correlation? See where it says “permanently closed?”

Well that is a shame. But that is running a tight line. These days staffing is a huge issue at $7.25 or $15.00 per hour. Around here staffing issues have caused more closures than pay issues.

It’s a crap situation all around. I get it. It’s the eternal “rich get richer, poor get poorer” story. Add the Great Resignation to the mix, and we’re in a whole new dystopia. Having been through really rough times, getting through, and being in hiring management roles for a long time now, I try to help people develop their experience and training so they have marketable skills and abilities and confidence to go for those bigger opportunities up the career ladder. That’s been a good formula. Those people then do the same over time, and then we get traction at pulling up people out of the paycheck to paycheck stress.

Maybe I’m way off the path of whether beer is getting more expensive…I’m grateful every day that I can buy stupid expensive beer if I want. Even now though, I’m mindful that it can change in an instant. Considering what NYS is doing to my industry space, it just might.

Be well, be happy, be prosperous, and hopefully drink some tasty beer!
