When I first got into craft beer, I started adding to my 'cellar'. I got up to about 75 beers, mostly barrel aged stouts. The other day, I counted everything in the fridge and in storage, 38 (I would consider a little over half of those, cellar-able beers). I had made a conscious effort in the last year or two to reduce the number of beers in the house. I have found, for me, that aging rarely did anything to improve the beers taste. The ones that I have are those that are only realized every so often, so I snag what I can.

How much beer do you have? Is the number increasing or decreasing? Are you happy with where that number is? Were you surprised by it?

None, I shouldn’t even really participate in this thread as I don’t “cellar” beers of any styles.

Both for lack of space and also because of a serious lack of self discipline unfortunately.

That said, cellaring some beers and styles is totally fine for those who can. An older Chimay blue is quite an experience.

I used to have 3 cases I was aging but have cut it down to 1. In the fridge its usually about 6-12 beers. Pretty happy with the distribution, keeps the amount of space taken up down and beers in the fridge fresh.

I have somewhere around...100-125 beers, plus or minus maybe 15?

All but perhaps a 20 beers are BA stouts or a high gravity non-BA stout, or BA barleywine. The other 20 are a mix: about 5 IPAs, about 5 oktoberfest/other lagers, a few old ales, and so on.

I'd like to get this down to about 50, but I acquired too much BC in years past. Still working through it.

I actually acquired more beer this year in winter than I normally do, but I had better access. I also got rid of about 3-4 cases of beer earlier this year, though.

I am actively trying to drink beer fresh, regardless of the style.

    Currently I have:

50 in the fridge/ready for fridge
    19 in the cellar

I tend to have a bit more in the fridge but I've been trying to drink down the older beers and old favorites to make way for more new beers to review

I took inventory on January 23, 2021 and had 453 beers, about 120-130 "drink fresh" beers and the remaining 220-230 BA stouts, saisons and quads. I am down to 285 total beers today, or 168 less. 29 of these are "drink fresh", the rest cellar appropriate. This was built with ambitious purchases, taking advantage of some great close-out/going out of business deals, and not realizing how much beer I actually had until I took inventory.

I drink one beer a day at home most days, so the key has been to limit purchases to continue reducing the current stash. I have a basement with proper cellar conditions (underground so 50-55 F in a dark closet) with 110 left there, and the rest (175) refrigerated. It takes some time since I don't drink stouts in the warm weather, and don't want to drink heavy beers every day during the cold weather. I've been trying to drink through three a week this Winter/Spring, and perhaps pulling 1 or 2 out for the New Beer Weekend/Sunday threads when appropriate. I limit Cellar Reviews to once a year of a particular beer, hopefully helps others with decisions regarding how beers are aging.

I don't intend to cellar beers in the future, after I work through the rest of my beers over the next 18-24 months, intending to keep a max 36-60 beers on hand at any given time.

I have about 60 beers around, almost none of them are truly cellared (a couple of aging beers that at this point are just an experiment to see what happens). I drink about an average of 8 beers a week and purchase about 5-7 a week…so reducing slowly. Big mix of styles (keep about 10 in the fridge, the others in my storage closet in the basement).

Well, this thread made me go count

Ive got 60 bottles and cans in refrigeration. This is mostly IPAs, belgians, a few sours, and some stouts that I worry about refermentation if they get warmer.
Then, in the cellar, I have 201 bottles and cans. Some of thisbis purposeful aging, with vintage Hair of The Dog order, a bunch of barleywines on one shelf, a bunch of imperial stouts on another shelf, and a third shelf with higher octane Belgians, and some scotch ales and a smattering of other random stuff.

Biggest contributor to beer volume is joining the Barreled Souls Bottle Society dangerously easy to order a ton of beers. Next would be getting more active in trading again during the past two years. And finally, hitting a win for BIF33 definitely has increased the stockpile! Thanks @swenny916 for that fun ride!!

I am consciously trying to reduce the in house volume, but my affinity towards barleywines, imperial stouts and bigger beers combined with fewer visitors due to COVID and having younger children severely limits my intake volume and rate abilities.

Now I have a count to compare against come Jan 1 2023. Lets see if I can end under 125 total! = >50% reduction! Go me!!

Counting seems like a lot of work but I have a (slightly outdated) spreadsheet of cellared beers & can take in the rest at a glance. Probably 350 in the cellar, 75 in the dedicated beer fridge, 50-75 "on deck" for consumption relatively soon. Somewhere between 450-500. I always thought this was gross overkill until the world ended & I drank this stash about halfway down (unfortunately it's blossomed again; pretty sure the little buggers are breeding back there).

My wife likes beer as much or more than I do, so we go through plenty!

I've got maybe 2.5 cases in my cellar, mostly Bigfoot, narwhal, lambic, and some random beers I just don't want to look at every day so I don't drink them too fast.
There's usually around a dozen beers in the actual beer fridge

I currently have 272 beers split between my place in NC and my parents basement in NH. I just recently acquired ~110 of those from a buddy who was moving. Most of those being Bourbon County and other stouts. Of the 272, 57 of them are lambic/gueuze. The three styles which make up the majority I'd say are BBA stouts, lambic/gueuze, wild ales.

50 or so sitting under my drawing table and 15-20 in my fridge
95% Imperial Stouts( BA ) and the other 5 are Barlwywines .

I'm getting more more sick of sitting on beer as it makes no sense. I feel like these breweries like to disguise "cellaring" as a tactic to make one buy more then needed cuz ive had multiple years of many beers and the differences in taste don't warrant the waste of money..for IMPERIAL STOUTS
In Barleywines the only difference is sweetness in a vintage and that's also not worth it to me, but i know people obsess over that stuff .

    Cheers yall

Anyone who knows me a little bit, knows I am crazy about cellaring beer and tasting cellared beer. Cellared beer is my dada.
In 2006, I started cellaring by buying crate every months (or an equivalent in 75 cl, so +/- 10-12 bottles). Today, I have about 1100 bottles of beer, both small (25 or 33 or 37.5 cl) and large (almost all are 75 cl). Small: +/- 700; large: +/- 400. I think I once had about 1300 bottles in total in my cellar. The number is fluctuating between 1100 and 1300 and can increase in 2022.
I know I will not be able to taste my whole cellar, it is kind of a beer heritage one day I will bequeath to my children and friends.
I have some fresh beer also, about 75 bottles. I will not age these, they will be tasted in the course of 2022 as pauses in tastings and analyzis of my cellared beer.
All my cellared beers I once tasted fresh and decided to age since they are ageable/cellarable IMHO.
The oldest beer is dating from 1970 (undrinkable because it was cellared improperly), the second oldest is dating from 2004. Then I have beers from every year since 2004.
My cellar consists of Belgian non-pasteurized beers of top, spontaneous and mixed fermentation: trappists, geuzes, blond strong ales, dark strong ales, tripels, doubles, Flemish red/brown ales, a few collabs, barley wines, blend beers, first brews, last brews, only brews, extinct beers.
Still plenty of space in the cellar under this Cold War house. Nevertheless, for some beers, it will take me 1 hour before I can reach it.

Somewhere between 75 and 100. I'm cutting back, gonna try to drink this mess down. I've got mostly ba stouts and barlwywines, but there are some crazy shit in there. I have a tierra incognito from 2012 floating around. Lol.

I have exactly zero beers right now, but 26 arriving tomorrow, and 36 the day after. Don't think I've broken 60 earlier. Wonder if they will fit into the space reserved in the fridge, probably with some smart planning...

I honestly have no idea exactly how many I have. I know when I moved about 7 years ago, |I moved about 40 cases, probably 65% commercial vs homebrew. The homebrew selection has come down, most of what I;ve brewed is not for aging, and I've worked through or dumped older stuff. However, I've accumulated at least that much commercial beer - all aging worthy, like big stouts, barleywines, sours etc.
I keep the short-term stuff, in the fridge for immediate consumption.

    336. I'm moving soon so I am trying to work it down a bit this winter which is when I usually accumulate more since I only drink big dark heavy beers. Mainly BA English BWs, BA Stouts, some Belgian Quads, and Samichlaus going back to 2012.
