From San Juan Island Brewing comes this Belgian Winter Ale. The label calls it a Dubbel, but it's more like a Strong Pale to me. Nice beer though.

 

You need some dead animal on that grill to liven up that fire a bit. Jealous of your weather until about May. Cheers man!

 

Põhjala Must Kuld Porter - nice rich beer to sip on this coolish Texas afternoon while waiting for the charcoal to get ready for the burgers.

Last night at the Garden for Tool. It was a hell of a show. And just a little bit loud.

Have you ever cooked pizza on top of those wood coals?

 

First go around with this Trappist brewery Spencer. Their White Belgian Wheat Ale. This sample is actually a few months old, but it held up well. Hits all the Belgian Witbier markers: spicy, orange notes and estery in a medium to high carbonated package. Quite refeshing. Hope I can find some fresher samples around. Cheers!

to get my mind off the fact that tomorrow is Monday, I sip this

Birra dell' Eremo (ITA) - MONOGRAM - Italian Grape Ale (7,1%)

33 cl can (€ 5)
"Best before: 11/2024"
Italian Grape Ale produced with 30% fresh Verdicchio must (white grape variety typical of the Marche region).
Fruity and mineral notes on the nose: grapes, peaches, fresh grass, marine salinity.
When poured, it looks like a Vermentino: straw yellow, clear, slightly veiled.
Super smooth body, almost flat except for a barely perceptible carbonation that tickles the tongue. Not watery, but really light.
Foam of little consistency that disappears almost completely immediately, except to remain in an imperceptible and discontinuous surface veil.
In the mouth, the taste of Verdicchio is found: fresh, fruity (white grapes, yellow peaches, notes of fresh grass and a delicate salty note) but with a rather dry finish, which leaves the tongue clean and dry (but not dehydrated).
I perceive a sulphurous note that is quite clear and I don't know how much it is intended.
The taste, however, is not affected that much, also because the finish is dry, while the characteristics of Verdicchio are found on the palate.
Much more similar to a Verdicchio, just as it is drinkable.
Sulphurous note aside, very pleasant if you like Verdicchio wine.
