Good evening fellow beer lovers! It's Thursday evening here in Oz on our fourth-last day of summer. The breeze is cool, the clouds are light, we're almost at the weekend. What more can you ask for?

This beer is thanks to @TurkeysDrinkBeer and is a fair dinkum West Coast IPA, a rarely seen beast these days but one that satisfies my palate far more than its newer, north-eastern equivalents. There's a lovely coppery orange hue, a light, persistent head, and a strong, piney bitterness that lingers after the swallow. The whole package takes me back to my first ever craft beer, which happened to be a WCIPA that was nearly spat across the barroom! A great beer all-round and a great end to my day. Hopefully it's a great start to everyone else's!

    Cheers

I'm that guy who takes his glasses on holiday, so the least I can do is use a Spiegelau when occasion demands!

    Cheers

Top of the evening to you @AzfromOz . Nice WCIPA you snagged there! When it comes to my favorite beer style, West Coast is most definitely the best coast.

I have a near opposite beer style, a BA Imperial Pastry Stout, intentionally aged to (hopefully) balance the sweet portion. Mission Accomplished!

Cross post with the Cellaruary thread. Bottom line, I really couldn't ask for much more in terms as how this held up and works today, close to 3 years after this was packaged. Well done Bruery!

    I probably should re-phrase that...

I'm that guy who takes a glass with him on holiday...

I don't treat my glasses to a holiday!

Good day BAs! Thanks @AzfromOz for starting today's thread. And, IMHO, every time you pour a good beer into a glass, it's a holiday for the glass! Today's New Breakfast Beer, on this cool (21 Degree) pre-snowfall morning:

OK NEIPA, but to my taste below standard for Toppling Goliath. Not that it's not good, but it could be better - tastes and aromas are muted and blurred. Rating 3.47, rDev -17.6%.

Good morning BAs, and thanks to @AzfromOz for today’s kickoff. I was up till 2am trying to make plane reservations, we had asked for a call back at 4pm (4 hour + wait advised) and we got the call back just before dawn this morning…then it took over 2 hours to (successfully!) set up part of our upcoming summer travels…beer me! - KBS Hazelnut:

I had not heard of this beer before this morning and barely 600 folks have checked it in on Untappd…so a new variant of one of my favorite breakfast beers - yea!

Bottled 1/27/22. Poured at 57°. Black with ruby edges; two fingers of coffee with cream khaki mousse with rocks; excellent cap retention with heavy ring and lacing; medium legs on swirl. Hazelnut and coffee nose with a little booze in the retro nasal. Hazelnut with light roast coffee right behind; not much bourbon; bittersweet dark chocolate on backend. Silky smooth feel yet medium minus body; a little warmth from 12% abv; moderate minus carbonation. Overall an excellent variant!; outstanding nuttiness blends well with light bitter roast coffee linger/aftertaste; dangerously light and easy drinking for abv!

    5.0 | 4.5 | 4.5 | 4.5 | 4.5
    Score 4.53 rDev +4.4%

I’ll be back in a little bit…I’ve got to unwind/and re-book some summer flights today…after Covid stopped us all in our tracks, the Zombies crew are itching to hit the road again!

Cheers and enjoy a Thirsty Thursday y’all!

World class. The barrel notes (Sherry, e.g.) elevate the base (caramel, bitter roast, e.g.). Cheers y’all!

Are getting any artificial after taste?

I thought about grabbing a single the other day, but then I saw "Artificial Flavors" on the label.

EDIT: In my humble opinion, all this artificial crap doesn't belong in craft beer. These beers aren't cheap! Even Prairie "Artisan" Ales uses fake stuff now too. It's also very oxymoronic.

Good question! None! I like hazelnut. The kickass stout brewers here Tampa/St. Pete regularly use hazelnut…I’m familiar with raw nut flavors in my mouth/barrel aged addictions flavors. This KBS variant, imo, is a winner…for me, better than Espresso and Cinnamon, but below Mackinaw Fudge and regular KBS…thanks for asking, and just my personal preference opinion taste-wise … Cheers!

Really appreciate, respect and value your opinions. Especially, when it comes to high ABV, barrel-aged beers.

Espresso variant tasted like a green bell pepper to me. The first bottle of Cinnamon was pretty good, but the second got poured out. Mackinac was good, but it had a bit of an artificial taste, and it was thinner than the original KBS. By the original, I mean before it became a year-round offering. It's still a very good beer and I can get it at Publix now any time, right next to the Baby, but it's a cheaper version of the original.

    Cheers!

P.S. I wish Utopias WWS was available here. I still have about 12-14 oz of the 2019 Utopias release. And I also a bottle of the 2017 Vanilla WWS. Hmmmm...
