I once bought an ESB at a grocery store in Bellingham, WA, from North Sound Brewing, out of BC, that came in a 32oz swingtop bottle. I still have the bottle. For a time I used it as a ghetto grunt.

You know they will eventually sell those 12 oz cans for the $20+ currently charged for the 16oz 4pak. Price creep, it's the older brother of season creep

I have always liked bombers - a big 22 oz of beer - good for a pour and then another - love the aesthetic, always able to finish the ones I liked, too... Not sure why the price-point never made sense, but it never deterred me from buying a bomber of a beer I liked...
With them on the decline, been enjoying tallboys as a decent replacement - you don't quite get two pours, but you get a pour and a cap... I figure less demand for bombers will equal less production, but that doesn't mean they need to go away - I mean, what's the villainy? If you don't like the price per ounce, don't buy, but I like the option...
Big beers belong in bombers lol! The high grav BBA stout, the BBA barleywine, etc... - make some friends or toughen up your liver, but the bomber is the best bottle for big beer...
I don't see 'em like I used to, but I'm a friend of the bomber...

Wait, there's too many bombers on store shelves now? Now? Really? The rest of the world notices that everything is going into 16 oz. cans, has been for a while now. You? Bombers. Did you forget to post this and are just getting around to it ten years later?

I understand people who want 8 oz. My standard is around 11. And 17 is my regular max. The smaller the better, but better not hate a bit bigger, no need to limit yourself, most often you get it in just either format. And I can afford not to like 22, because there aren't any around. They are not dead, but were never actually born.

Let's continue this discussion, even if Europe is back in the dark ages. We can't do otherwise. Shit.

I just speed read the thread, so I may have missed it, but I don't think anyone has mentioned that the larger format bottles are better for long term cellaring than are smaller bottles. For this purpose, certainly, liters, or magnums (or jeroaboams or methuselahs) would be better than 22 oz.bombers, but for the averge person bombers are a reasonable large format for this purpose.

Seeing that bomber of espresso oak yeti was like seeing a photo of an old friend in their prime while I'm at their funeral. I'd love to see that one come back.

I was just thinking the other day we've gotten away from the bomber format! I miss bombers. I used to love grabbing the latest Stone bomber back in the day. Now I rarely see them anymore.

But when I say I love bombers, it's really just for IPAs, lagers, saisons etc. in the 8% and under range. I definitely hesitate with the big stouts, etc.

What? They’re putting beer in cans? Absurd. It’s a fad that will never catch on. Glass Or Die (GOD).

OK, @JayORear, got my new tool today, thanks for the suggestion. Getting ready to crack this open, gently pour in half and seal the bottle to finish tomorrow. I will report back on carbonation level comparison in 24 hours.

Free Will Brewing here in PA had incredible 8oz. slim cans for their Ralphius variants in 2021. I literally would have dropped several hundos on them in 2022, but they claimed their source ran out. Perfect size for high ABV BA stouts. Sigh.

I don't hate bombers, I just drink far fewer of them than I used to. As I've gotten older, my consumption has gone down. I used to be able to knock off 22 / 24.5oz of anything up to the mid-teens abv no problem. Now, not so much.
I'll still grab an occasional one here or there, plus I do have a lot down in my cellar. Plus a dozen cases of empties for bottling homebrew. (why work twice as hard to bottle into 12oz? Though I mostly keg these days, I'll still bottle the big IRS and sours I brew.)

My liver is just big boned.

what? Your liver doesn't have bones? Sounds like you need some big bottles of milk stout. Gotta bulk up!
