Walking the aisles of TW earlier today, picking off singles for a mixed six. Bell's Amber, Shiner Heritage, TBBC Reef Donkey...
    WAIT A MINUTE, DA FUQ?
(Bell's) Rind Over Matter in 4 pack pint cans? Hell, yeah!
A few years back an area brewpub's brew I'd been enjoying on tap in house was wrote off after the canned version tasted half of brew, half of tin. But the pint can force is getting stronger; Hard yes, a bright future.

It’s really hard to beat a liter of fresh Weihenstephaner or Paulaner helles. Two cans of either are really the perfect amount.

I’m lucky if I can find the stuff within 3 months of canning! At least the doppelbocks have some give to them time wise.

Yes, the Doppelbock style does have more 'leeway' when it comes to age.

I am lucky to have many local craft breweries that produce high quality German style beers so I am able to obtain those beers fresh. Plus I homebrew so that is another option for me; I recently brewed a batch of Altbier (Sticke version).

    Cheers!

Personally, I'd really like to see DIPA's, imperial stouts etc. in 8oz cans. One brewer here has a 10% barley wine in 19.2oz cans. It's good but I never buy any because I know that a: I won't finish it or b: I will finish it and regret it. My wife might have 2-3oz, otherwise I'm on my own for most beers, except for big stouts, for which she will try to drink my share as well.

Maybe only a matter of time since Paulaner has already canned their Oktoberfest in 1 liter cans:

Yeah, I bought one of those last fall. That's why I brought it up.

I feel disappointed when beers I buy are anything less than 16oz. I like stovepipes too, but 22+oz is generally too much.

We will have to set our timers to see how long until we can purchase a Paulaner Helles in 1 liter cans.

    Prost!

I don't see 12 oz glass making a comeback. For breweries that currently bottle, they are probably less likely to give that up, at least with the current supply chain challenges.

Rationale behind this. Bottling equipment for 12oz has been retired/removed in some breweries. Hi-Wire did this 3 or 4 years ago because the bottling line took up so much real estate in the brewery. Once the bottling equipment was gone, the area was immediately utilized with more tanks, and storage for empty aluminum cans.

At SN you can watch the bottling area, which is huge, from one of the hallways. But how much SN in glass do you see at the retail level. I'd guess it 80% cans, 20% bottles around here, and primarily only for seasonal or such as Narwhal or Barley Wine.

I definitely do not miss the 22oz bottles, I always thought they were a rip-off.

Amen to this! I drink a good deal of German beers. I hate those 11.2 oz bottles. Love the pint cans. Plus those pint cans hold up better in the trip over.

Honestly, I can't always decipher the date codes on most German beers. I did write one brewery to get the low down. I have some local breweries that make some pretty good German styles too but I have yet to find one that quite matches most imports. Luckily we get some pretty fresh cans of Paulaner & Weihenstephaner here. I have yet to find a local beer to match those. I have no idea what exactly they do different (decoction?) but there always seems to be a notable difference in flavor, head retention & mouth-feel especially.

I've had few and I want to like them but it just isn't enough. They've all been pretty expensive too.

I'd like them for the big and boozy stouts, but obviously not a pale ale lager.

I like 6-8oz pours of big beer when I'm out for safety. Everything I've had at home in a tiny can has been big and boozy and objectively I know it's a reasonable amount. Except it isn't enough. :grimacing:
