Good Sunday afternoon, New Beer Sippers and commentators. Yesterday, I made my first visit to Invertase Brewing Co. in Phillipsburg, New Jersey (located on the Delaware River across from Easton, PA). The brewery opened shortly before the pandemic. I sampled the New England IPA, which was nothing special, and the Imperial Breakfast Stout, which was quite good. I bought cans of the latter and a bottle of Serendipity, a Belgian Dubbel aged in Buffalo Trace Kentucky Bourbon barrels. Apparently, the brewmaster made this ale for his wedding. I thought it was an interesting idea.

It pours a honey-amber color with some rosy hues, and almost a full finger of foamy, ecru-colored head and thick lacing. The smell offers caramel, brown sugar, oak, raisin, fig, and just a whiff of bourbon. It has all the tastes you'd expect in a Dubbel, opening with the fruity sweetness of raisin, fig, banana, and brown sugar, along with clove. There is also evidence of the barrel aging in the presence of earthy, oaky notes and Buffalo Trace Kentucky bourbon, which contributes hints of molasses, vanilla, and anise. It finishes with a touch of hop bitterness. The mouth feel is on the thin side with appropriate carbonation. Interestingly, it seems rather boozy for 6.2% ABV.

I seem to like it better than the two previous reviewers. One recommendation: let it warm for about an hour before drinking it. Cheers, NBW!

    Afternoon NBS.
After busy week and very busy ending on Saturday I think I deserve a new beer.
Two Roads is always a great brewery to find some interesting beers, especially their "Tank" Series. Ol Factory Pils is another of my favorites when I can find it fresh. They dug a little deeper into the NE craze with Two Juicy which is another good beer when fresh. With so many choices now its gets lost in the sea of IPAs. One thing I always liked about it was it wasnt turbid, just hazy. So like so many Two aint enough so they went:
    MEGA Juicy! Hazy Imperial IPA.
Pouring a Golden, sunny orange with a good haze that just lets you see your finger on the other side. The creamy white head is tall and lasting with lots of lacing. Nice looking start.
Aroma is straight out mango, orange sherbet, lemon/lime with floral notes and essence of pine.
Taste follows with lots of orange, then tropical notes, strangely a bit of banana. The tiniest bit of syrupy sweetness gets quickly erased by an oily orange peel bitterness lingering with pine on the tongue. Solid darker than pils malt base.
Body is medium/full, prickly carb throughout, not too aggresive but I wouldnt say soft in feel, only a hint of 10.2% in the taste but it does drink easily and Im feeling it halfway through the glass.
Good beer but Ive definitely had many better in the TIPA/IMPA category.
Worth a try but not sure if this would be a repeat. Decent.
    Cheers![IMG]

Dirty brown color, murky; fat, coarse carbonation; fizzy head, initially tall yet quickly fizzes away to a few skimpy patches of foam. Huge aroma; spicy; anise and licorice; raisins. Malty, spicy flavors; mild to moderate caramel; anise and raisins; boozy phenols. Medium-heavy body with slick, watery feel; alcohol heat on the palate; slightly sticky.

One certainly senses the high ABV of this beer. The malt / wheat base adds some nice flavor components. The lack of any lasting head is a small disappointment, but the flavor and aroma intensity makes up for this.

    ------------------

...nice enough heavy bock beer, interesting with its wheat heritage, but I much prefer Celebrator or (the sorely missed) Sam Adam's Doppelbock...

...my photo project - Project 52 - I intend to post one picture per week, non-beer, on NBW...naturally, I think hot wings pair nicely with beer, so wings Rocket the Wonder Dog and I made and shared this past Thursday...here's the pic:

Old Nation Night Farmer, Porter, deep brown pour with thick frothy head, sustains well, cocoa, coffee, extremely smooth and malty. Creamy mouthfeel, zero bitterness, this is a very well brewed Porter, loved it

I tried to find your project 365 pic yesterday with no luck earlier in the day. I’ll have to go back and look now.

What sauce do you use? Or make your own?

It's basically Frank's Original Hot Sauce with butter, sometimes I add some Secret Aardvark and will be adding some home roasted chili peppers in the future...

...the wings - I sprinkle smoked paprika on the skin side, bake for 25-30 minutes at 400°, turn them and bake another 25-30 minutes, then toss 'em with the sauce and proceed to push them into my face...

...kudos to @TheIPAHunter for turning me on to the Aardvark a while back...

Good afternoon BAs! Hot, sunny, low 80s here this afternoon…you guessed it!, new RIS weather - Fort George Brewery, Astoria, OR, “Matryoshka”, an RIS aged one year in Buffalo Trace Bourbon, and in Westward Whiskey, barrels:

Bottled 2021. A Tavour purchase last year. Poured at 57°. Creamy tan head with rocks sits atop black liquid with ruby edges; good cap retention ultimately leaves islands of micro dots; heavy ring; soapy lace, especially with agitation; thin legs on swirl. Nose is sweet bourbon and caramel malt; boozy exhale. Sweet bourbon entry followed by charred oak; dry whiskey and some roast bitterness; dried fruit - cherries, plums, figs; caramel and toffee finish. Smooth soft feel yet dry barrel tongue coating; moderate minus carbonation; full minus body, but not adjuncty; full on mouth warmth from 12.8% abv. Overall, a classically delicious BA RIS; well balanced base and barrel flavors blend effortlessly; super easy drinking; lovely boozy malt linger.

...baking just seems to keep the wings more moist overall, while the smoked paprika helps with color and taste (to a smaller degree)...

Spent a bit of time there since Dad lived there and Mom was in a nursing home there. They are both gone now. Been to that Magic Mushroom. Love Wrightsville Beaches. Its hard for me to get a good vibe though since my youngest brother was hit by a car and killed in downtown Wilmington. But there are aome cool places. That bar with like 200 beers and ciders on tap is pretty cool if its still there.

In his massive assault on my beer fridge and liver, @FBarber sent me several traditional German beers from Dovetail Brewery in Chicago. They've included a Festbier, Kolsch, Vienna Lager, and Helles Lager. All have been outstanding! These are not styles I typically drink but I'm very impressed by Dovetail's attention to detail. All have been very flavorful. It's a shame we don't have a similar brewery in this area. If we could get fresh Dovetail cans in New Jersey, then they'd be a staple for me in the summer and autumn months. Thank you, Frank!

Poured into a Willi Becher glass. It pours a clear, pale golden-straw color with slight greenish hues, and more than a finger of fluffy, bright white head and thick, clinging lacing. It has a delightful nose featuring well-toasted bread, a hint of caramel malt, and spice. For the style and ABV it packs a lot of flavor. It's bready with a nice touch of caramel that quickly turns dry and spicy with a nice bite at the finish. The mouth feel is lite and crisp with pleasant carbonation, and it's just crushable at 4.4% ABV. Overall, this Helles Lager offers a big beer in a small package. I'm very impressed at Dovetail's attention to detail in these traditional German styles.

I hope everyone is enjoying this New Beer Weekend as we get closer to St. Patrick's Day and SPRING! Cheers, NBW!

Greetings All from the Great Northwest where we have had a cold snap the past week, but back to seasonal for the weekend.

Been a while since I had a Redhook brew, so today it's Storm Surge Hazy IPA.
    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/50687/556522/

Not a great brew by any stretch. It has kind of a dry chalky bitter grain flavor. Like a lot of Redhook brews I guess?

    Until next time

Canned 1.6.22 , opened 2.26.22, received in BIF14 from @snaotheus. New brewery and new beer for me

Poured into a spiegelau Ipa glass , translucent orange liquid, thousands of active microcarbonation streams and a massive four finger off white creamy foam cap that rises above the rim , great head , spotty lacings

Can notes: ddh double ipa fermented with our favorite British ale yeast , settles to a two finger domed cap after five minutes

Aroma is citrus lemon, orange , whiff of pineapple

Taste is citrus lemon, orange purity, bit of herbal, bit of pineapple

Sudsy mouthfeel, gentl hop bite, slight lingering bitterness, semi dry finish, smooth, clean, light

Medium amber body color, partially hazy; fantastic carbonation; thick, frothy head, semi-creamy, dense and sculpted. Beautiful esters in the nose; yellow pitted fruit like peach and a bit of pear; pomegrante; sweet malty element. Fine stone fruit and citrus flavor; mild bready, caramel-like malt base; minimal bitterness. Heavy body; soft abrasiveness; sweet and sticky mouthfeel.

A very nice New England India pale ale interpretation that has a stone fruit-forward character. Nice balance and depth to things, not too sweet and balances it all between the sweetness, esters, and light bitterness.
