[IMG] Poured into a 10 oz tulip glass canned this week. Pours a hazy yellow orange with a finger plus sticky white head that leaves thin streaks of lace with impressive retention. 4.5

Aroma is cantaloupe, mango, peach, mandarin, and apricot. 4.5

Taste follows cantaloupe, mango, peach, mandarin, and apricot really balanced. 4.5

Mouthfeel is above average, soft gentle almost creamy carbonation, not sticky or dry, and at 10% ABV it goes down really easy. 4.5

Overall this is pretty darn tasty. Juicy and a tad dank. Highly recommend this one. 4.5

One of (the very few) our local breweries recently sold. Not to the big boys tho! Eola Schoolhouse is now Farm Ale Brewing Co. This brewery is in Eola, Texas, in the middle of Texas' Rolling Plains cotton country. The Farm Ale has been a go-to for years out here. Chris, the new brew master has improved on it. He also took the Farm Ale recipe and hopped it up to get...his very tasty Pale Ale.

Brought that six pack home and am very pleased with the results of his efforts. 5.4% abv.
This pale ale is quite different than those that I have been into recently. This guy has that farmhouse sour and funk, with some sweet malt going on early. It's cleansed up nicely by bittering hops with some very light citrus.

    Cheers Y'all

I neglected to say in my previous post... Thanks for the kick-off this weekend, @SawDog505!

For my final new-to-me beer this weekend (and the start of the 18th year for NBS - thanks, @ChicagoJ for keeping track!) I'm having a 4th variant of J.W. Lees Harvest Ale.

J.W. Lees Harvest Ale (Sherry Cask) 2016
    ABV: 11.5%
    IBU: NA

Strong aroma of ripe fruit, apple, woody tannins, toffee, leather.

Murky orange-red body. Active carbonation visible with a backlight. Short off-white head that recedes fairly quickly to a thin ring with scattered slight bubble islands.

Flavor has a wine-like (sherry) character, relatively complex with tannin sharpness. Ripe stone fruit, tart apple, wood, leather. There is a lot going on with the flavors so I'm sure I'm missing describing some. The dominant flavors are ripe tending toward over-ripe stone fruit, tart apple, and woody tannins.

The mouth feel is also wine-like, if slightly thicker and more substantial. Sharp tannins.

    Overall, an excellent sipping beer.

Good evening and a Happy Anniversary to all of the NBS faithful.

My first new beer this evening is from Tripping Animals - a Mexican style lager called No Mames. It has been interesting seeing how many of the local breweries down here have either a light lager or a mexican/American adjunct lager on their menu in the same way local breweries in Chicago have a pilsner.

Pours a slightly cloudy golden color. Thin one or two finger head forms on the beer before dissipating. No residual head remains. Aroma has notes of corn, sweet malts, a touch of lemon. Very straightforward, simple profile.

Taste follows the nose with notes of white bread, corn flakes, some light lemon and lemon grass notes and a rather noticeable yeast note. Feel is light to medium bodied, pretty crisp, with prickly carbonation.

Overall it is a nice Mexican lager, but at the price point ($20+ a 4-pack) it would in no way replace any of the cheaper imports.

    Hello Late Night (NBS) NBW.
Pulled out this one from the back of the fridge. Damn, I'm grateful to @WunderLlama but a tad embarrassed I didn't hit it a few months ago when he generously sent this.

Konstantin Märzen by Schilling Beer Co.

Beautiful clear amber in hue. A fluffy white head rises nearly 2 fingers high and slowly settles to a white ring. Slight lacing, decent retention.
Aroma is mildly toasty brown bread, gentle caramel notes, and a most understated dry herbal note.
Flavor follows the nose pretty faithfully with a slightly dry bitterness tamping down the sweeter notes.
Carbonation is active, good heft for style, and a nice noble spicy dry finish.
    Overall, good for the style.

Tripping Animals Brewing Co. -- No Mames
    Mexican-style lager
ABV: 6.0%; pouring temperature: 47 °F; canning data: unknown

Light amber body, crystal clear; dense carbonation presence; thin yet lasting head, semi-creamy and white. Rich, grainy aroma; toasted grain and roasted corn. The taste follows along with the smell; lightly roasted malts and adjuncts; light bitterness. Medium body; crisp with a nice warm overtone.

This is a very nice adjunct lager. The corn component is noticeable yet fits in nicely with the overall smell and taste of the beer. The beer delivers a low-key grainy sweetness with a subtle hop bitterness. Well-rounded and tasty.

    -----------------------

...after a month or so of extreme beers and high ABV these and thats, a fine, respectable adjunct lager to close out this crazy weekend just seems about right...

Next up is Reality is an Atmosphere: Centennial from Fast Fashion Brewing Co. brewed in collaboration with Averie Swanson of Keeping Together. This is a Belgian pale ale brewed with Segal Ranch whole cone centennial, motueka and tradition hops.

Pours a mostly clear brilliant gold color. Thick, frothy white head forms on the beer, dissipates partially, but never completely. A thin residual head remains on the beer. The second pour from the can carried with it more sediment and was much closer to opaque thanks to the sediment. Aroma has notes of belgian yeast, light peppery notes, floral hops, some green notes with a touch of spicy, dried grassy notes.

Taste follows the nose with notes of pilsner malt, a strong belgian yeast character that has some zesty, lemon notes with a distinct floral quality. Some pepper and spicy notes come through along with dried grass and dried hop notes on the back end. There is a subtle sweetness to the beer. Feel is medium bodied, smooth, zesty. Lively carbonation. Dry finish.

Overall this is a lovely beer and a joy to drink.

    Seriously!! What are the chances??

I also enjoyed it - it is nice to just drink a straightforward, simple lager sometimes.

@ChicagoJ inspired this one for me, and I wanted to put it in this thread too. [IMG]
There’s a reason these guys still get respect for their barrel aged program, and not just as pioneers. This is everything I want in a barrel aged stout. I don’t take appearance of these beers as much of an indicator of anything. It’s all in the smell, taste, and feel. Smell is oaky and boozy bourbon barrel over roasted dark malt, with notes of coffee, vanilla, molasses, and brown sugar. Taste is actually a sweet vanilla forefront with a tangy bourbon barrel current coursing through it. Roasted dark malt with coffee notes. My god, it tastes good. Surprisingly lighter bodied than I expected, but a big booze presence. Mouth watering finish. Not thin, not thick, a just right consistency. Also, it’s not syrupy nor oily. I chilled this for a few hours this afternoon, and I’ve been letting it warm, but it’s going to be difficult to let it get to a room temperature without finishing it, as this is one amazing beer.

Finally got to try this. Brian Boru red ale from 3 Floyds.
I’d be happy to drink this all day on St Patrick’s day.
Malts and a smattering of hops with an unexpected spice element. Subtle, but there. The feel was ideal, way too easy to drink quickly.
Wish they sent more up to West Michigan, Almost everyone is already out.
    Cheers!

No, the other stuff from them that I saw on the shelves were those fruited sour type beers.

    Evening, all.

Spokanistan's false spring came to a rude end on Monday, with a snowstorm that would've been no big deal but for the fact that the wind was blowing around 30mph. Then, after the snow, we went into a deep freeze, with wind chills below zero and sadistically sunny skies. I blame Canada.
It warmed up to more normal temps this weekend, but is now rainy.

No beer today, as I cut loose a bit and went out drinking with a couple friends yesterday. While doing so, I paid a visit to River City's taproom and tried their new WCIPA, Land Squid, which had just had it's debut a night or two earlier.
Had to use an image from their fb post about the beer because I accidentally deleted my pic, although it lives on at UnTapped. Brewed with the ol' C hops (Centennial, Cascade and Chinook), it was crisp and fairly light. Insane drinkability for a 7% old school IPA. I think I'll be having more of them.

    My pleasure sir!

Yes, that’s a very good and pleasant surprise for a French NEIPA. Your review again nails it better than I could, and again happy that you enjoyed the beers I sent your way.

Seems like it’s about time to close down, and unplug this NBW, until next week.

    Cheers.
