Has anyone been to this event in the past? Just wondering if it’s worth it. https://www.labeerfest.la/
Five Threads and Indie shut their doors so guess that's 2 less breweries, and take above mentioned ones + Athletic that makes for a whole chunk i want nothing to do with. It's a 5 minute walk from me, maybe ill go
This is not the beer festival you want to go to. The LA Brewers' Guild puts on a beer festival during their annual beer week (although COVID may have prevented 1 or 2) and it's even been in the same location as this one but it features much, muuuuuch better beer.
I forget where I saw it, but I think it was one of these old beer fest pics Todd posted. There was a huge line at one booth, then at the Athletic booth there’s no one and the guy’s just reading a book or something. Would have made a great meme.
I assume the LA Beer Week Kickoff Fest that Franny throws will probably be happening this year, historically it's on Father's Day weekend. It's all LA Breweries in the LABG, plus usually 5-10 guests (usually neighbors in Orange and Santa Barbara). This is the fest the breweries look forward to, and bring out their best beers. An old coworker had gone to the fest you posted. He said for the breweries he was excited for, they just brought their flagships. If you are going to do one LA Beer Fest this year, hold out for the LABG sanctioned one.
Pretty big turnout for the first session. Some nice beers from Speakeasy, Radiant, Firestone and others - not the A list served but being my first beer fest in two years, I was happy for the most part. The other part was the VIP experience and that was mighty lame; the fest shirts passed out were single ply teepee and the "rare" beers in VIP were liquor store fodder like New Holland Dragon's Milk (not a bad beer but not exactly hard to find). Nice consolation prize was strolling down to Highland Park Brewery after the fest and enjoying High 8 Anniversary blend.
