Good day BAs! Off to a chilly start (27 degrees) with frosted everything outside. Today's New Breakfast Beer:

I'm not a fan of the "Brown Ale" style, but this one works for me (Or maybe it's just that I do like pecans). Rating 3.48, rDev -5.2%.

    Good day @Ozzylizard and all,

Brown ale? They’re hit or misses for me. The one I tried and enjoyed were good, really good and others ended up as drain pour after a few sips.

Now drinking La Goudale Ambrée, weather is cloudy but mild, not frosty when I woke up anyway.

    Cheers..!

    No more Okey Dokey…

    Morning, BAs!

The store I bought this from did me the "favor" of aging this KBS (bottled October 2020). That works for me; I find KBS benefits from some age.

    Cheers!

Hello from The CANQuest (tm) bastion in LanCANster, PA! It's been a little while, but given the response to my Midwest thread re. Ahia beers & my personal replenishment station of Rivalry Brews (Online), I have decided to break my silence and inCANlude yinz in a brewery horizontal today.
    @tekstr1der @steveh @meanmutt @JackHorzempa @tone77 @jkblr

Lemme clue you into the greatness that is Lock 15 BC in Akron, OH! These guys are killing it, especially in terms of their Lagers. Plus, the graphics on their CANs are both whimsical and amusing while the history behind them is at once startling & enlightening. Disbelieve? Read the Notes for their Killer Fog ... Ugh.

Here's CANother helpful hint from a seasoned veteran - when Adding a beer, do a minimal amount of research (either the brewery's website or sister site, Untappd) and include some Notes! I don't care if you don't want to do a pic, but the lack of Notes is inexCANsable. Need exCANples? Look at almost all of the Lock 15 entries. I get credit for most pics and almost all Notes. They are how an entry should look, IMHO.

CANd without further ado, my first of this CAuNspicious ocCANsion:

In the immortal words of the great Pixburgh Pirates pitcher, Dock Ellis: "We gonna get down [today]! We gonna do the do!" Naturally, it was uttered against the Cincinnati (OH) Reds Big Red Machine of the day (1970s). I wish that I had some Mad Tree or Rhinegeist to inClANd in today's do ... C'est la guerre. Sigh.

"On this day [19 December] in 2008, former Major League pitcher Dock Ellis died in Los Angeles at the age of 63. Ellis is famous for pitching a no-hitter on LSD for the Pirates in 1970. Although he never pitched for Cincinnati, Ellis had a couple of notable run-ins with the Reds. On May fifth, 1972, Ellis was involved in an altercation with a security guard at Riverfront Stadium. The security guard, David Hatter, forbade Ellis from entering the ballpark due to apparent intoxication and a lack of identification. Both parties later claimed that other was violent. Hatter said that the pitcher attempted to punch him while Ellis said that the guard maced him. Charges were later dropped against Ellis. The Reds later issued Ellis an apology and dismissed Hatter.

In 1974, Ellis felt that the Pirates were losing their competitive edge. He was afraid that Pittsburgh was no longer aggressive enough to win against good teams. In order to fire up his teammates, Ellis decided to take action against the Reds on the first of May. Before the game, Ellis declared, "We gonna get down. We gonna do the do. I'm going to hit these m*****f******." He proceeded to drill Pete Rose, Joe Morgan, and Dan Driessen in quick succession to start the game. Tony Perez proved too shifty and was able to avoid four pitches to draw a walk. Ellis then threw twice at Johnny Bench's head before Pittsburgh manager Danny Murtaugh yanked the pitcher from the game. The Reds won the game, 5-3, but the Pirates went on to win the NL East, by a game and a half over St. Louis.

Turning from the cellar clearing to the clearing of "drink fresh" beers, most are still within code but this one has past its prime.

Still drinkable. Will get a fresher beer or two straight from the source later today!

    Until then.....

Yea! One of the many "hometown" breweries here in my hometown of Akron OH - Lock 15 is great, as is Akronym, R. Shea, old timer Thirsty Dog (celebrating 25 years this year), Hoppin Frog, and others! Cheers!

Speaking of great Akron area beers - this one is made 5 miles from me, and is an underrated RIS!

Love the 16 oz can format and freshness!

Hello Advocates! Thanks @Ozzylizard for starting up todays thread. I'm having a curious brew to begin this day. Modelo Chelada Limon y Sal. Briny and makes me crave grilled meat. Glad I got 12oz cans vs stove pipes or silos. Salute to everyone!!

YAASSS! I had (kinda) forgotten about Hoppin' Frog & Thirsty Dog (we get spoiled with our massive distro here in PA), but who CAN ever forget Chrissy Hyde? She had a hotness that she didn't understand, but many of us slathered over.

    R. Shea? Tomorrow! Only a CANple, though.

I was last through Akron in 1997. We hit the Inventors' HOF, which was kinda cool, like a mini-Franklin Museum in PHL. The big pull was CANton & the NFL HOF on our meandering way to my now-late-great Aunt Rita's in Parma. I am an original member of the R&R HOF and still come out ocCANsionally, even without her presence.

I'm CANnected to Ahia, although I disdain it in favor of just about EVERY other midwestern state. I am a Pitt alum and would LOVE for Pitt to join the Big 10! Pitt - OSU? The seats would fill!

    Just my $0.02.

Workhorse Brewing Co. x Cape May Brewing Co. -- Cut From The Same Cloth
    Cold black India pale ale

Source: @jonphisher (another fine beer, thank you)

    look: 4.25 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4.25

Clear, dark brown body; thick, frothy head, light khaki colored; sticky; rocky. Intense aromatic hop spiciness in the nose; floral and pine resin notes; pungent; mild cocoa. Mild chocolate malt base; spicy overtones; cinnamon and anise; moderate to intense hop bitterness. Medium-light body; starts smooth on the palate and finishes with a delicate prickliness; crisp; semi-dry mouthfeel overall.

I wasn't sure what a cold India pale is, so had to look it up (I've seen the style of late). As I understand things, pilsner malt and lager yeast are utilized to produce a "crisp" IPA. As a fan of Cascadian dark ales, I looked forward to trying out this beer. I am not disappointed. It has all the elements of a well-made Cascadian dark ale with a bit of lager smoothness, yet it also leaves an overall IPA feel on the palate. This is a very nice beer.
