First weekend of March. Bock season is upon us. I plan on a couple of new bocks, one of which will be a somewhat scorned Midwest bock compared side-by-side with a MN bock of greater reputation. Saturday will be a German Weizenbock, and Sunday the side-by-side. IDK why I posted this; I guess I'm just looking forward to it myself.
I already have my new beer selected for this weekend's NBW; it is a Winter Warmer vs. a Bock but I look forward to reading about your Bock beers. I did see 12-packs of Genny Bock this past weekend at my local Wegmans supermarket and I did think about buying this beer but I recently bottled two homebrew batches (Czech Dark Lager and 1896 Michelob) so I figured I really shouldn't buy this 12-pack. I will enjoy Bock beers vicariously through you. Cheers!
My OG plan was to do a triple Firestone Walker rating (2017 (Helldorado and Stickee Monkee) and one 2019 (Napa Parabola)), but planning on trying a tapping of Revolution Bean Gene tomorrow, so going with one of the three cellar brewery pairings: Prairie Artisan (2017 Birthday Bomb & 2017 Pirate Noir) Central Waters (2019 Vanilla Bean Stout & 2019 Rye Barrel Stout) Goose Island (2019 Reserve Rye Stout & 2019 2 Year Reserve) My remaining new to me cellar beers are warmer weather appropriate (Lambics, Saisons, Wild Ales, etc.). so looking forward to transitioning (and warmer weather) before committing to new beer purchases in the Summer.
Well @MNAle i did see arcobrau doppelbock (coronator) locally for the first time ever, which I have never tried. Perhaps if I make the chance out I will make that my NBW choice and join you. If not, luckily I have 2-3 new ones ready to go in the fridge, non bock beers that is.
FYI - Bell's Consecrator Dopplebock was released this week. Don't know how far the trucks have traveled to get it to you.
You know, this is one Bell's and Doppelbock* I've never tried before -- makes me think it's one of those budget killers, but I may have to splurge. *Bottles will be available exclusively at Bell's general store? Guess I don't need to worry about the budget.
I don't get the 'exclusively' at the general store in the way they worded the release, but it's not as clear as it could be. It's listed in the Availability schedule right along with all of their other beers that get distributed.
That's in the website description. Dunno. Also looked it up at a local, big retailer and search yielded no such name. I could swear I'd seen it on shelves in past years.
You probably did. It doesn't get the distribution it used to... like many other beers. I wish I could grab a sixer these days.
Maybe I'm not looking in the right places, but I just don't see a lot of bocks on the shelves around here. I too enjoy bock season and would love to pick up examples of the various styles if I can find them.
